Stealth Growing?
    #5124533 -

Im about to make a setup for growing shrooms. I want to make a stealth setup (as I dont like to plant flags), and so am planning in an enclosed area. I am thinking of going with a spare dresser i have. The measurements of the dresser are 57in.L-16in.W-29in.H.

This is my first grow but ive watched a few dvd's on growing, and have read many articles on growing so i already know what to do. I have some questions though.

Will I be able to grow shrooms in this enclosed area without ventilation, or do i need to add some sort of ventilation vent to the cabinet? Also, I was told that I need light. Nothing massive, maybe some flourecents. How many watts should i use for this space?

I wanted to spend the extra money to buy something to keep the temperature at the required levels, what is this device called? I had read that during incubation 86 degrees is best, while in fruiting it should be dropped 10 degrees to 76.

And last question. What whould I use to humidify my enclusure? How do I measure humidity levels?

I think thats about it. Any info will help. Thanks.

Thanks. But I already read over the humidity techniques, only thing i see is the perlite. I was wondering if their was some sort of electronic device i can buy that humidifies the space, something more controllable than perlite.

Also...What do i use to control temperature?

I'd search old posts for peoples setups that leave there grow self maintaining. By use of a humidifier and it's settings and a heater you could make this possible... It's a lot simpler, seeing as this is your first time jsut to use perlie for humidification and whatever's conveniant for heat...

Another thought to, you'll probably get a better response to this thread if you move it to the cultivation forum.

I thought only moderators could do that in forums.

What you're looking for there is a thermostat. Heaters of all kinds from ceramic space heaters to fish tank heaters have thermostats built in. Do a search for 'heatbomb.'

You may also want to consider simply using your dresser to conceal smaller growing containers. Depending on your growing method, using several smaller containers within the dresser would allow you to humidify more easily than simply trying to maintain the entire interior of the dresser. In addition, this would enable you to contain any possible contamination.

Check out faqs for various devices (coolmist, bubblers) to humidify. A humidity gauge is called a hygrometer. You can get a combination thermometer hygrometer for less that $10

Good luck.

Dood you can grow shrooms under you sink if you want too lol. Pretty easy man, just a 30 gallon rubbermaid, a ultrasonic humidifer, a rack to go inside the rubbermaid (or build one from something).

Yeah but my plan was using the inside of the dresser as a terrerium and directly placing the trays in the dresser. As long as i can maintain my temperature and humidity levels right?

Your using the dresser walls as the walls of your terrarium? Better line them with plastic...

Due to the segregated interior of a dresser, it would be difficult to maintain even temperature throughout, unless you were going to keep a separate heating unit in each drawer.

Humidifying the entire thing would pose the same problem. As Ericson said, you'd better have some way of keeping the wood from soaking up the moisture and rotting on you.
