Couple of Q's reg. preparing substrate.

1. Would it be a good idea to use the water from the pasturized straw in regular rice/verm/water jars which I will preasure cook as usual? I thought of this today as I did this in parallell instead of in seriel; as I was puring out the water.

2. Should I use colonized substrate (wheat/rye/rice) to inoculate preassure cooked rye/water or is it just as good with a regular syringe?

3.Is it OK to shake a rye jar after 5 days, if you forgott, after you inocculated it with a _syringe_ and _no_ sign of growth?(I did that today, and didn't really think of the consequences)

4. Ah forgot; Anyone preassure cooking their straw? I am pasteurizing mine at 70-80 deg. C and it just doesn't feel right when you have a P.C shining in the quorner. Heard of myseterious contaminations if you _cook_ though...

5. Can you colonize straw in big 2 liter jars or is it better in bags with lots of holes? I always colonize it with prepared rice/verm jars.

1.) yes you can use it and it will add more mutritin. i am just now experimenting w/ dung water for nutrients.
2.) either way will works; living culture might bypass germination time; saving a day or 2 total but either will work fine.
3.) its not too good an idea to shake before germination because single spores are momoakryotic and only when 2 spores germinate next to each other and mate can they become diakryotic and have the ability to fruit; and the faster a living diakryotic culture is made the better. also might take longer to fully colonize after being dispersed like that.
4.)try PCing it ;it may work but its not recommended. i always pasteurize and it works fine. actually straw in general is the shit so 'fine' is an understatement.
5.) you can colonize it in anything you want man; just keep it sterile or at least really clean (alcohol clean should be fine). in a bag it would be easier to 'shake' or break apart if you do that though that is why bags are ideal.

when you said "just keep it sterile or at least really clean" do you mean the straw or the jar? Pasteruized straw is far from sterile as far as I know.
