if i had a grow and got busted, the laws would favor me in vancouver over california...am i correct? like, no jail time for pot grow, just fines and legal fees and probation?

well, still not as bad as the prospect of going to prison for a few kilowats worth of a grow in the USA

I know a guy that had his garage grow busted, the cops axed all his venting & carbon scrubbers and just left it behind.

I've had a mild interest in moving north for a long time. If I'm going to do it, it would be smart for me to do it in the next year or so. Have any Shroomerites actually emigrated to Canoodia?

what part of IT IS ILLEGAL does no one understand

Quote:
The penalties for growing marijuana under the new marijuana legislation would be

* for growing one to three plants, the penalty would be a fine of up to $5000 and/or 12 months in jail
* for growing four to 25 plants, the penalty would be a fine of up to $25,000 and/or 18 months in jail, or if pursued by indictment, five years less a day imprisonment
* for growing 26 to 50 plants, a sentence of up to ten years would apply
* for growing more than 50 plants, the sentence could be up to 14 yea

It's a slap on the wrist for possession of under 14 grams of MJ.

the laws are quite similar to in the US, it's a fine for posession of less than an
ounce in most states, no jail time, in excess of an ouce it's a criminal charge
and usualy a couple years on probation, dor distribution or cultivation, it's a
criminal charge, it rings tru in both countries, I've walked away without
posession charges several times heer, many others have as well

whats the difference in canada and the US regarding pot posession?
there isnt one

i always hear people say shit like this. that in most places in the US it's a slap on the wrist.

i have to disagree though. i've been arrested and put in jail for very small amounts of weed. had to go to court, community service, fines, probation; all that good shit.

i have a friend who was arrested, charged, and convicted for three seeds the cops managed to scrape up of the floor of his car. that's not really a slap on the wrist in my book.

i live in NC btw.

btw, i think they are maybe talking about the lax enforcment of the laws, and you're talking about the laws themselves.

isn't pot technically still illegal in amsterdam too?

so they stiffened the penaltys... it used to be 30 grams

Actually you are both wrong. Possession of any amount of pot is still a criminal offense here in Canada. Under 30 grams is possession, and over 30 grams is trafficking.

On the other hand, an awful lot of people get away with just having their pot taken away by the cops. That includes small grows, too (say under 10 plants).

A bill was introduced by the NDP earlier this year to decriminalize possession of up to 14 grams, but that was scrapped when the no-confidence vote forced us into another election.

In many places I know you can get away with smoking in public. A few of us shroomerites got nice and high in public during a protest this summer in Toronto, with the cops just standing idly by watching.

I was sitting on a pound of pot, a had several cops blocking my driveway, my
room mate invited one in the house that he knew, the cop stayed a couple hours
talking while the guys outside were conducting their 'road check', the cop
in the house said to my friend "your buddy is a pot head isnt he?"
to that my friend responded "yeah, what gave it away?" the cop stated
"the fact that the bong is next to the TV"

a guy I once knew had purchased a used car, the muffler was loose and rattling,

he hadn't had the chance to have it repaired, he was stopped becayse it made a
spark when he went over a bump, cop made the stop, did a search, a single seed
and a piece of stem was found under a floor mat, he was subsequently arrested
and convicted and recieved a year in state and 5 on parole as a first drug offender

again, the laws are enforced inconsistantly through out both countries

I did say just that in an earlier post but if the new laws go into effect it does stiffen the penalties by reducing the amount for trafficking

just like in canada, many times the pot is simply 'disposed of' by or in front
of the officer, more often though people are arrested, it's dependant upon the
attitudes of the officers and the 'suspects' in each case...

there were a couple times I was busted with a joint burning, once with 3 plants
in my closet and cops serving a traffic warrant and on another warrant had an OZ
sitting out on the desk, in all these instances I was lucky, the cops overlooked
what was in plain sight

how many posts have you read regarding kids here talking about what a prick a
cop was when they were drinking underage and in posession, the cop didnt jail
them but made them dump the beer and weed, sounded like a pretty cool cop to me

yeah alot of it depends on the indivdual cops attitude towards drug users, and of course living in a small town versus a big city will make it more likely that you'll be reamed by the police.
