Canadas Marijuana Legality

So whats the deal with marijuana being legal in Canada. I heard of possesion being legal in Ontario. Is this true and where else is it legal. If its not, how strict are the police about it? I am planning on going to Manitoba in June. Probably somwhere around Winnipeg. Whats the marijuana scene there and how strict are the police on it there?

Dont get caught crossin the boarder with ganja in your posession. Them border people might have a bit of a soft reputation, at least towards us canucks, but you get caught while your hot; dont be expecting to be coming up north again anytime soon.

I was gonna say use your common sense, but then I remembered that you're wanting to to a quick vacation to Manitoba, not that there's anything wrong with it... :yawn:

its decriminalized. meanign if your jsut hanging around smoking it and dont have much on you, i think all you get is a ticket and tehy grab it off ya. depends on teh cop though.

some will be real dicks, some will jsut pass by.

It's still fully illegal here, but the attitude seems to be more laid back about it. Most people I know who've been caught with less than an ounce on them have been let off and only lost their stash (a crime in its own right!).

If you don't make a big fuss about it, they aren't going to come looking for you.

i jsut speak out loud to anyone, no one specific :smile:  i jsut say shit and leave....thats just how it works here.  tehy are after cash, once they get their fill then they may consider dbusting kids...however i have been to the tim hortens on well over 10 different occasions between 10pm and 4am with the whole department sitting having coffee and donuts while the parking lots across teh highway are almsot ALWAYS having good size drug deals going on.  its just not a priority to some.

btw teh whole department here is like 5 cars.....small town.

To answer your question Ratbag, MJ is not legal in canada. The catch is that if you posess a small amount you will get off with a warning or maybe a fine (and get your shit confiscated).

It is similar to speeding. It's still illegal, but it is not a criminal offense.

It isn't legal at all, just the same as it isn't legal in Amsterdam. What is happening is the cops are "tolerating" this is in some places (mostly BC). But even then I think they get busted sometimes, though I haven't heard any news of this lately.

No. Marijuana is still completely illegal in Canada.

It was briefly legal due to some laws not being passed, and there are lots of communities within Canada where its use is tolerated to a degree, but the police can still arrest you, and you can face jail time for simple posession.

The laws state that you can't posess it, you can't cultivate it, and you can't sell it. Places like the Hot Box Cafe do none of these things.

interesting. whats with all this ticket stuff they give out then? just another option? with a ticket it would make things official and i would assume with it being decrim'd it would then have to appear on your record. no?
