Cold shocking, when to do it and how long?

Hey guys, right now i have a big freexer bag with some nice brf/verm substrate and a little added dried blood growin.  It is golden teacher, and i cased it about 2 days ago.  It is now starting to get some nice overlay, but now pins.  I know from what ive read GT can be a real bitch to pin, so i think im gonna just go ahead and cold shock it right away.  The myc is showing through in numerous spots, but i dont have a solid "blanket" of it on top yet, but will judging by the growth rate in 2-3 more days.  SO my question is, should i cold shock it now, or wait until more myc shows through.  Im anxious to get some fruits(obviously) but  moreso want things to fruit a little more properly, so should i shock it now, or wait?  Also, how long should i cold shock it for??  If necessary i can provide a pic.  BTW, im sure this is no big secret, but from what ive seen, big freezer bags maintain humidity VERY well, and i have had great success with this thus far.  I crumbled up 3 previously lightly green molded cakes that were only partially colonized.  After crumbling and putting in the bag, about 5 days later it is all colonized and mold free, and showign through the verm casing layer :stoned:

The big chunk in the middle was also crumbled up and mized in prior to casing.

So lemme get this right, you used 3 contaminated cakes and mixed them with non contaminated and it beat the mold out? is this possible, can you beat mold by over whelming it with mycelium? Also if by some remote chance this does work out for you, and I have no reason to believe otherwise, because I have done things on this forum no one thought I could but worked well for me. I hope this works for you and forgive me for adding things to your thread but you have me thinking lol and am High so your fucked lol. I want to know if it is or is not possible to beat mold by overwhelming it with mycelium, do not tell me yes or no unless you have proof or have done it. This would be something I assume would work and have pondered but never did due to the fact I am still by this forums standards a newb and in mine as well, but I have learned in my short time here things can be done that people said could not so rock on man and keep us posted.

NOOO, i had 3 cakes that had small spots of mold. The 3 werent fully colonized yet, so i crushed em up into a freezer bag(after cutting all the mold off and about 1/8" of substarte beneath it), and mixed the colonized chunks with the un colonized, and began misting it twice daily to maintain moisture. After about 4 days it was fully colonized with no mold. The myc doesnt "overwhelm" the mold, the mold just doesnt seem to take hold after the substrate has been colonized. I have tried this many times before, this is the first time it has worked. BUT, back on topic, what about cold shocking this "casing"?

Well thx for giving me some input on your experiences with mold, also I forgot to answer your question lol, cold shocking is great to start pinning on the first flush after that there is no real point in doing it, just lets the shrooms know its time to put up or shut up lol.

Yeah, i know what its for, just need to know at what point to do it, and for what length of time, someone help me out here. As far as mold goes, usually i throw them away, but it was only small spots, and i figured the worst that could happen is itd mold again, but it didnt , so all is well.

Do it after you have a marble looking effect on the casing layer, if thats the case cold shock it now, this is my judgment from what i know, Also to negate my point for a very even flush, I have been told to wait until substrate is fully colonized, then add casing layer and cover fast peeking mycelium with your casing layer until you have at least 80% colonized casing layer.

P.S. I am still new at this but I do allot of research to refine my game and I am still learning, and pro's know it's not only about what you know, but what you have used, your only as good as your experiences.

Cold shocking is not required at any stage. All you need is a temperature drop. Transfering from the incubation chamber to the fruiting chamber is sufficient.

Being that these were infected cakes, and did not have any intention of them actually working out, i just put it all in the bag, and set it in my room. NOw that it is doing good, i cased it, and i just covered the spots that were showing through in hopes to get some more even overlay. I know coldshocking isnt necessary, but from what ive read GT can be a bitch to pin, so i figured i might as well. So would the genral concensus be to wait until i have a more even overlay, seems to be the case.

The cakes prior to being "cleaned" and put into the bag were under my bed, and now are in a different area of my room so there has been no change in temp, possibly why even though it is in the light now and has been for days, it hasnt started to pin, even with the verm case on top, the myc is exposed to light through the sides of the bag and has done nothing but grow. So it would seem, that unless i have a fruiting chamber under room temp(currently about 65-68 degrees) i would need a cold shock, correct?

Read more to see that unless you're growing ones that would benefit from a heavy cold shock (not cubes) then it can be harmful.
