awake vs. asleep
    #4989118 -

is it possible to be awake but convince yourself that you are still asleep?

and why would one want to do this?

i'm speaking metaphorically and literally.
reply...however you want.

Metaphorically (literally), absolutely, such is the state of most people. One might want to do this because they don't know any better, or because their addicted to this habituated idea.

Literally (metaphorically), yes, but it would be difficult. It would be like the placebo effect, except on a deeper level.

I can see those being reasons.
But I was thinking of something more along the lines of....why would the awakened Self....keep the conscious self asleep? I was thinking there is probably a benefit to being asleep....and it might have something to do with sequence of events (or time).

why would the awakened Self....keep the conscious self asleep?

My understanding of it is that the higher Self is simply the eternal witness, not affecting anything and being unaffected by everything. Thus to the awakened Self it's not a matter of keeping the conscious self asleep. Rather, the conscious self is by its nature asleep, and will awaken in its own time.

i know someone who recently (i believe) has

there are many reasons why one would not want to wake... i know it will be a hard, tedious path that i have chosen, but i think its more worth it than giving up and living the simple life that i can lose myself into and become distracted by...

my conscoius is asleep to an extent because it will not accept the things i know are true, its that heir of skepticism..

and if the conscoius mind will awaken with its own time, then im gona make it wake up early, even if i do go nuts at least im not waiting still

I just get "Is not that what we are doing?" ..

but I kind of see more sense to it, that I can not see.. like I am preventing myself from seeing what I see.. kind of like you said?

It is relevant! that is why!

To ME! a-Ha-Ha!

one of my greatest fears.

human motives scare me.

should i allow myself

to be hypnotized?

because i'd really like to be "awake" while sleeping and "asleep" while waking.

yes. i worry about this. i once had a dream that i was doing judo. WOke up gritting my teeth with my pillow in a SAVAGE choke hold, and inexplicably, blood on my sheets. Makes me think im not safe to share a bed with, fyi.

Sorry lets not derail the thread.

did i hear someone say they want to be awake while sleeping and sleep while awake?

can be done. If by sleep while awake you just mean be in a low state of awareness. most of us are alot of the time. true waking lucidity is rare and takes vigilance to maintain.

as for being awake while asleep, guess what im gonna say: lucid dream, man, its amazing. had a good ld last night and as always it just makes me feel great all day. (one trick pony i know)

peace
