Awake or Asleep?
    #5421730 -

We sleep in darkness and awake in the light. I thought of this as I was drifting off to sleep last night. Such a great metaphor. I'm sure I heard it somewhere else but at the time it felt like an original thought. In the darkness it is hard to see while in the light everything is clear. So ask yourself : Am I sleeping or am I awake?

I think it all comes to are we fully conscious or almost unconscious?

All this time I've loved you
And never known your face
All this time I've missed you
And searched this human race
Here is true peace
Here my heart knows calm
Safe in your soul
Bathed in your sighs

Sleeping Awake - POD

Reveal to me the mysteries
Can you tell me what it means?
Explain these motions and metaphors
Unlock these secrets in me
Describe the vision, the meaning is missing
Won't anybody listen?

Define the riddles of my mind
Nothing is really what it seems

Dreaming of Zion, Awake
Sleeping Awake
Dreaming of Zion, Awake
Can't stop Sleeping Awake

Do you see what I see?
And can you hear what I hear?
Do you feel what I feel?
Can't stop Sleeping Awake
Do you see what I see?
And can you hear what I hear?
Do you feel like I feel?
Can't stop Sleeping...

Can you see it? The writing,
Can you tell me what it means?
Translate the symbols, Enigma
Expressions keep questioning me
The message is written, the meaning is missing
Won't anybody Listen?

Prophesy, interpretate the signs
Nothing is really what it seems

Dreaming of Zion, Awake
Sleeping Awake
Dreaming of Zion, Awake
Can't stop Sleeping Awake

Do you see what I see?
And can you hear what I hear?
Do you feel what I feel?
Can't stop Sleeping Awake
Do you see what I see?
And can you hear what I hear?
Do you feel like I feel?
Can't stop Sleeping Awake

Do you see what I see?
Can you hear what I hear?
And do you see what I see?
And can you hear what I hear?
And do you feel like I feel?
And can you dream like I dream?

Do you see what I see?
Can you hear what I hear?
Or do you feel like I feel?
Or do you dream like I dream?
Anybody see me?
Anybody hear me?
Anybody feel me?
Anybody out there?!?

Dreaming of Zion, Awake
Sleeping Awake
Dreaming of Zion, Awake
Can't stop Sleeping Awake

Do you see what I see?
And can you hear what I hear?
Do you feel what I feel?
Can't stop Sleeping Awake
Do you see what I see?
And can you hear what I hear?
Do you feel like I feel?
Can't stop Sleeping Awake

Anybody see me?
Anybody hear me?
Anybody feel me?
Anybody out there?!?

--> This is on the soundtrack to the 3rd Matrix movie - and they're a kick-ass band!

I felt that it was appropriate to the theme of the thread, oddly enough I was also listening to My Ruin's Terror today on my mp3 player which has the line "I sleep to dream, and dream of sleep" and it got me thinking...

What is more 'real', is it what I dream bout, where I can do anything, be anything without constraint - in effect where I experience absolute freedom - or is it in my waking hours, where I can do my best to alter reality to suit my desires, but there will always be other influences impacting on my level of freedom...

Incidentally, I dream of weird scary stuff - which makes me think that perhaps absolute freedom is best left to dreams...  They allow us to explore scenarios and concepts otherwise closed to us most of the time.

It's a great metaphor.

I'd like to think I'm awake... Obviously, there is a great difference between being awake and achieving enlightment, whereas one is a self realization and the other is fulfilling your duties of relieving yourself.

Come into the light. AWAKE!

That "come into the light" comment makes me think of Plato's myth of the cave

What if when we are sleeping there something coming from someplace and is something else is being done, and when we are awake something else is happening too.

That would mean someone was at someplace at sometime!

I have an idea, maybe dreams are just products of your brain absorbing information from environmental stimulus. Or maybe I'm just not evolved enough :frown:
