the garden

The Garden of Eden is still here
The serpent suggests eating of the fruit of knowledge which leads to temporary absence from the garden as we retreat into perceptive mentation.

The serpent is all about words.

Words wrap ideas like the serpent coils around branches, but the serpent is just another entity, - and so the words are mere grippers and holders of bark not the core ideas that they wrap and sweetly deliver.

So what is this Garden of Eden myth and why do we blame Eve?

We are Eve every time we are cute or alluring. We are the serpent every time we speak. We get kicked out of the garden for appreciating the fruit the serpent (words) delivered. We get distracted by the cuteness, and amazed at knowledge and all the ideas wrapped by serpentine sentences.

Then we are back in the garden again, breathing the perfume of totality with Eve.

Maybe knowledge is the root of good and evil (not ignorance)...

and maybe women were the first humans to have superior mental faculties...and we (males) blame eve (women) for all the new rules to abide by (because the males like their animal ways).

or maybe the males were the first humans with superior mental faculties and came up with the idea of morality..and tried to impress it upon their women and children...but they still behaved like animals....so we blamed them for being the cause????

i'm just talking a bunch of poop.

The word is not the thing.

"When a child looks at a bird, he looks at its splendid colours, the texture of its feathers, its surprised movements, its cooing and the whole spectrum of events delights him. Then comes along Father who must intervene in the son's own interests and tell him that this is a robin, that is a swallow and that he had better know the difference. No sooner than this lesson on nomenclature is imparted than the boy stops to see the bird and becomes obsessed with the word. He starts comparing things and the joy of direct perception is lost."

What's in a name?

So are we then decieved of reality by the abstraction of the idea created to categorize reality?

Then can we only see reality through categories?

the sweet fruit, and eve herself is that too, follows the suggestion of the words, and serpent is that, and adam falls out of totality, and the garden is that, when he examines the chain of events knowledgeably - the knowledge of words-ideas- beauty-desire-incarnation.

adam returns to the garden after a spell; it happens again.
and again.
no blame.

I think we are deceived of reality by the words and labels we insert between reality and our minds. Although words are necessary for communication, they are not reality, but only a mental representation of it.

Go look at a tree. If the first thing that comes to your mind when you look at it are the words "ugly", or "beautiful", or if you start categorizing the tree by the way it is structured (branches, leafs, roots...), then you are not in direct relation with it, but you are in a duality mode where what you observe is in contradiction with you, the observer, the thinker. Do you understand?

We can only see reality with a calm and silent mind.

More words.

Who does this?

Maybe "reality" is to vast for the human form. We have limitations in so many areas (it seems) why would it be different here?

you can go back and look at the tree until you see it as one thing with the observer the universe and history - "no separation" puts you back in touch with the garden.

not more abundant, nor better crafted, nor more slithery words - these just point the way out of the garden in separately wrapped bits of totality.

all very nice either way, you know.

since words don't fit the bill of representation, always falling short, maybe it makes more sense to say they're just an extra aspect of the same reality, not this thing that has a unique relationship to the rest of the world.
