How does the serpent distort words?
    #6167030 - 10/13/06 07:59 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Recall the first thing God said to describe the serpent. That's right! He is the most subtil beast that God had made.

Subtill connotates cunning.

Hieroglyphs is the oldest form of writing. The serpent plays tricks with God's word to add or subtract letters to distort one's thinking.

I am starting a list so that members in our body of Christ can add words to the list that the Holy Spirit has revealed to him or her.

Observe that the letter added and/or subtracted will either distort or modify the meaning. State whether either word is a (D) distortion or (M) modification.

Examples:

M Evil + d = Devil
D God + l = Gold
D Word + l = World
D Heaven - h + l = Leaven

Rev12
[9] And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Amen!

WTF makes a snake so cunning compared to other animals? I think you don't spend enough time outdoors.

Err, considering the etymologies of those words, I don't think there's much of a case here.

"God" comes from proto-indo-european "*ghut" meaning "that which is invoked." Gold, from PIE "ghel" which would be close to "bright."

Devil comes from Greek diabolus, "accuser, slanderer," whereas "evil" comes from Proto-Germanic "*ubilaz" meaning "bad," or "vicious."

Word, in English, derives from German "Wort," and World derives from German "Welt."

I don't even need to address the obvious heaven/leaven attempt.

This is a rather silly hypothesis, indicating a poor understanding linguistics and the development of words.

Also, dare I ask why you provided links to relatively mundane and straightforward terms coming from Wiktionary? I imagine just for dramatic emphasis.

I love snakes! they are a fascinating and beautiful part of our natural ecosystem.

The snake is used in eastern mysticism to represent the pathway of energy moving up the spine, a metaphor for enlightenment.

The serpent is also a beautiful metaphor for the coiling and cyclic nature of reality, often you might find a sepent eating its own tail in some symbolism.

I have found that the devil and serpents our really great scapegoats for the evolving human condition.

there is no evil and there is no good, outside of a cultural frame of reference.

Do you have any real anemies? do we have any real enemies?

what makes them evil and not us besides ideological or cultural differences?

what makes the young man on the street so evil when he kills somebody? He is only looking out for himself. He is only doing what he thought was best for himself.

Perhaps a clearer understanding of good and bad can be found by examining how self centered you are compared to how concerned about others you are. you dig?
