Early stages of diseases such as schizophrenia, are often accompanied by feelings of deep insight, mystical knowledge and religious experience. Something to think about.

ive always wondered about the potential for insight in schizophrenics. i mean obviously they are experiencing very different states of consciousness and as many of us here know, different states of consciousness can lead to new insights.

they say that when people become schizo they have abnormally high dopaminergic neuro transmissions which gives them low latent inhibition, a state at which some people operate normally and experience very high creativity.
So in essence, people on the verge of schitzophrenia does experience the world in a heightened state for a while.

My older brother is schizophrenic, and all of his experiences with the disease have been irritating or frightening as far as he has told me. I think you guys are romantisizing this. It is a terrible affliction. There is no room for the inspiration that accompanies the visionary state due to the mind being in such a confused state.

is schizophrenia really a disease?
maybe dementia, autism, psychopathy, depression & obsessive compulsion (OCD) are diseases and schizophrenia is our common platform, the mind's body.
we may all be schizo, just some of us are sick of it.

"is schizophrenia really a disease?"
Not in the traditional sense. We are all dysfunctional in our own ways, but some fall too far outside the norm to communicate effectively with the rest of us. When someone has made agreements about reality that make no sense to others their interactions cease to work.

I didn't think it was much to think about. Thus, there is no consensus, and there is no schizophrenia.
Peace.
