mushrooms are used to make wine. i've seen it online before and i once saw some type of mushroom-rice wine at a oriental market. you can probably find some for sale online.

i've never seen a mushroom beer on the market, though.

interesting! I wonder if cubensis mycelium or some other mycelium of the fun kinda can be used inplace of or in combination with yeasts.... I bet/assume mycelium also produce alcohol keytones

If you powdered cracker dry mushrooms, and added them to the brew, after the beer cools, it might could work. The only issue, would be the mushrooms settling into the trub, when you filter the beer.

Your best bet, would be adding a pre determinned dose, of cracker dry mushrooms to each bottle, durring the bottling proccess.

I dont want the mushroom in the beer.... I figure if i go the route of adding mushrooms as mushrrom itself i would have it in the bag i use for boiling grains. But after the boiling.....During the whole cooling process. Like how you would make tea. take the bag out and viola

no boiling of the mushroom, no major loss of goodies do to heat.... But enough heat to kinda pasturise what ever contams maybe on the mushroom...


this is whats going to happen..... three batches will be made

first batch;
add mushrroms after making the wort during the cool down process, in net bag.....

second batch;
make a mushroom tinciture using eather brandy or everclear, adding to vessel during fermentation

third batch;
i would make a starter of some malt sugar and steril water. add my yeast and mycelium. Incubate till its clowdy and livley, Then pitch it into the vessel with the wort.

fourth;
use mycelium in place of yeast....maybe morchella or ganoderma lucidnum, ar a funny one.

Morchella maybe because its not a perect fungi its not a yeast...Its in its own class kinda the link between the two....

i never really know what the hell you are talking about, but here goes.....

every yeast is a fungus, but not every fungus is a yeast.
every mushroom is a fungus, but not every fungus is a mushroom.

yeasts and mushrooms are two different types of fungus. another example of fungus would be molds.


in brewing, yeast is used to ferment sugar to produce alcohol.
so, beer is not made of shrooms, but a fungus is used in the brewing process.

And, it's important to note, that not all organisms will utilize fermentation as a form of cellular respiration. And even among those that do, not all of them produce alcohol.

Humans use fermentation when the muscles do not get enough oxygen. But we dont get drunk every time we overexert ourselves, we just build up lots of lactic acid and get really sore.

I dont know how to connect this all to mushrooms, though. I'm no mycologist.

yeah all i can say is get a biology book and read up cuz its to much to be specific! If you wanna know read it other then that i wouldnt/couldnt do the fungi/yeasts/molds justice by explaining....

all i can say is they are all on the same level just a bit different. In the way they multiply and digest and.........................................

It IS well adjusted to fermentation in anaerobic conditions, and it DOES produce alcohol when it ferments.

Mushrooms dont do too hot in anaerobic conditions, they tend to go dormant or die I beleive.

I think your best bet for a trippy beer is to add powdered shrooms when you're bottling
