i was in a Binding Stevens nursery here in my city and saw:
"Gardener's Delight" mushroom compost. Has anyone had ANY experioence with a ready made mushroom compost or with this particular name brand.

'Mushroom compost' is essentially spent substrate on which mushrooms have fruited. It is then(from what I understand) placed in a pile and turned periodically; it is good for plants. Since mycelium has already consumed many of the nutes needed to produce mushrooms, I don't think it would be good to grow on again. You will probably get minimal results, if any...

Hey XAZIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get the compost, if it's the same stuff I use (purple and white bag), then it is GREAT for casing the fun guys. I use this stuff exclusively with straw and get outstanding results. It takes about a week for a 1" layer to get colonized, after spraying with a water and peroxide mix, and has contaminated yet (some of my earlier casings with mushroom compost are on their fourth and fifth flushes!!!!

But, yeah, go ahead and get it. What is it, like $4 for a 40 pound bag? It's good stuff.....

Correct..

But, maybe it still has enough nutes to support growth, since mazamaze says he uses it...

mazamaze, you say you are using it as a casing layer?

If this is so, casing layers need no nutrition in them, so again, refer to my first answer...

mazamaze...please clarify, are you using the mushroom compost as a substrate or a casing layer?

which brings me to this question...when using any type of compost do you use it like a substrate like dung or a casing layer like verm or coco fiber?
