but there is a local company here that makes a mushroom compost that has never had mushrooms grown on it. It still contains all the micro-nutrients. I don't have the complete list of ingrediants at work with me but it has steer manure and wheat straw and some lime I think. If there is any intrest I'll post more info when I get it from home.

Sounds like it should work well. Post the details when you get a chance.

Here is what it says on the bag.
Permagreen Mushroom Compost Blend A blend of compost made from horse and poultry manure, wheat straw, cottonseed hulls, forest products, and sphagnum peat. It's one of the basic formulas used by mushroom growers. What seperates us from the competition is that no mushrooms were grown on our products. So all the micro-nutrients, trace elements, and other conditioning agents are still available to yoiur plants.Nothing has been used up growing mushrooms. Don't worry about funguses, high salts from nitrogen residues or other growths being in Permagreen Mushroom Compost Blend. It's clean!
Sounds like itr should work well to me but I'm no expert. I like the idea of premixed blend though. It looks like it could use some more straw though.
I started some casings with it so we'll see. This is my first casing attempt so If it fails it may just be my technique rather than the compost.

Either I'm off on the amount per bag or those are big casings. Thats 5 casings per bag @ $2.5/bag. 1.25 cu. ft = 2,160 cu in. how many cu. in per casing? 12 x 12 pan, say .5 inch on bottom and 1 inch on top. 12*12*.5 + 12*12*1= 216 cu in. that = 10 casings or .25 per case.
