House Plants
    #4939744 -

Hey all I am getting into house plants and was wondering if I could get a few tips..

What are some good plants to start growing indoors?

What are some good active plants that you can grow indoors?

What plants could I only grow with a light?

I am in zone 4 and it gets cold here for a large chunk of the year.. growing tropical plants indoors excites me.. Thanks for any and all info!

pothos is one of the most forgiving plants there is. grows vines and can turn a wall green pretty quick if given teh chance. easily to propagate by cuttings.

Definitely salvia. Extremely easy, and it produces a lot of cuttings you could hand out. That helps fucking with the prohibitionists. About everyone at my girlfriends office has been given one, maybe 70% have no idea what it does, but they wanted cuttings anyway  .

Of course my friends all have salvia in their windowsills by now. And I'm encouraging them to spread cuttings too.

Well this is just my experience right now.

When you grow your own stuff, from seed you picked. Then you get to see it sprout and come to life... Well just about any plant is equal at this point.

So advice, anything...

I would suggest san pedro like rod said. As far as any other indoor plants, I personally like to grow basil or hot pepper plants. considering they are annuals, keeping them indoor keep them alive. its kind of fun. Bean plants are also goofy to grow indoors. I am a geek. Young_but_cool, I like your thinking. Johnny salvia plant basicly. Spread them all over, and soon enough they are everywhere.

As far as the most obvious plant to grow, cannabis can be well grown indoors under lighting.

i just got a dwarf banana plant. It looks great and is growing at a fantastic rate.

I agree that you can't lose with pothos (and you definitely know someone who has one, so you can propagate from a cutting). Another good indestructable stalwart is sansavaria (sp?), a succulent with leaves growing directlly from the soil, kindof like a grass.

if u want easy plants, take anything from a regular garden center.
they cater to the masses so they are oriented towards the plants that
are easy all round for whatever area the GC is in.

Is there like a specific way one has to take cuttings from a sansavaria plant? Do they have to be certain length, or put in water for awhile or anything like that?

I've got one doing fairly well and I'd like to see if I can propagate it.

so far as i am aware cuttings don't work with this plant, the only way i have ever propagated this species is by separating smaller off shoots from the main rootball.

You could grow rustica tobacco if you like tobacco indoors(it's worth a try even if you don't like real nice buzz),kanna can grow as a houseplant it's active, but more of a mood enhancer I hear.I'd definitely put salvia and san pedros,p. torch at the top of the list for legal to grow actives.
