Clarification on religion vs. spirituality
    #4895237 -

I don't mean to ruffle any feathers here, but I'd like a little clarification here on some definitions used in this forum so that I know what's ok to post. What is religion? How does it differ from spirituality? Does a post have to address an already-established religion in order to be considered religious? Can one have one's own individual religion?

Feel free to lock this, but first I'd appreciate it if you answer my questions.

Can we just name this forum something else?

"Belief Forum" sounds stupid but if we are going to be held with chains to the labels in the forum title then I'd prefer the title be flexible with ALL spiritual self-expression.

P.S.

The definition for religion is already in the forum rules:

re?li?gion (n.)
1.
1. Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
2. A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.
2. The life or condition of a person in a religious order.
3. A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader.

....A SPIRITUAL leader, mind you.

Plus, no interpretation necessary...here is what is says in the description underneath the forum:

Quote:
Similar to our Philosophy & Spirituality forum, here is a place for the dreamers who do not wish to have their ideas harshly criticized or disproved. Freely express and discuss your personal beliefs on spirituality, religion, mysticism and the paranormal. Share your views of the universe, souls, god(s), extraterrestrials and beyond. Attempting to disprove or discredit an idea will not be tolerated. If you wish to debate and argue a position, the Philosophy & Spirituality forum is your alternative.

Self explanatory to me.

The word religion actually means realignment, as religions were meant to realign people with God (or whatever you want to call it).

:tongue2:
Yu can be religious and not spiritual. You can be spiritual and religious or spiritual and not religious.

Religion is no longer a must to achieve spirituality.

Sadly religion has lost its original purpose. "to realign people with God (or Light, Life, Tao, etc." (Deviate: nice definition by the way :mushroom2:) and have become organizations. Many times religions work together with the government to rule and have powr over people.

Their interest changed form realigning people with God to ruling under His name . Many many times using their power to take advantage, shit! they conquered all of south America in Gods name, killing and slaving thousands and thousands of indians. They committed atrocities in the name of God, the Catholic church . And most recently, in September 11. :frown:

Never the less, in every religion saints, wise men and True Spiritual teachers have emerged. I know quite a few from Christianity because I myself grew up as a Catholic Christian. I know some others from Budd-ism, and I'm sure that in each religion there are many True Spiritual Teachers.  :tongue2:
Being part of a Religion is not a requisite for becoming a Spiritual Teacher. It has nothing to do with it. it may help as much as it may drive you away.

Many times we think we know God, but that thought is really the curtain between you and God.
religions tend to think they know God, or believe they know. or even more tricky.. they Believe in One. but..
when you truly know God you dint think, you dint believe.. you simply are!!
