Anyone know how long a casing, which is well establish will generally take in 65-75, high humidty conditions to start pinning... also.. can anyone point me to pictures of pinning cakes are their earliest stages?

my substrate is brf.. casing is 1" moist verm, 1" crumbled cakes (2 cakes per casing), and the top layer is 50/50 with some calcium carbonate for pH.. they have been birthed recently, and show very little sign of further colonization of the top layer.. they are in a nice humid envrionment, with temps of 65-78 consistently.. fanning 3-5 times daily.. the casings are shrinking away from the pans slightly, so the space has been packed with dry vermiculite... thats about it..

oh, and the top layer is like 15-20% colonized, but hasn't changed in like 3-4 days.. they were also cold shocked for 24 hours.. but only at about a 8-10 degree drop..

your substrate should be a tad thicker than the casing layer. your casing is very dry. you should let the casing inncubate until 30-40% colonized and then birth. ohh by the way what strain is it

the top most layer of 50/50 is very thin actually.. and it is dry, but in a high humidity envrion.. I have read several tidbits that say you should wait for 30-40%... but others that say "as soon as mycelium starts to colonize the top casing layer".. I think there is some debate on the matter.. and it is P. Cubensis.. of unknown strain :)

well the debate is....................what happen to u when you introduces the casing to light right after first signs of growth. it is not nessacary to cold shock cubies

true... but cold shocking couldn't hurt I suppose..
so, knowing what you know now about the setup.. perhaps an estimate on time-to-pinning? :)

they have been on 12/12, and fanning cycle for 4 days now... and...

how long after pinning does it typically take for the flush to end and be harvested?

i very well could hurt and it does. if you do it in the fridge. many contams in there. it sloooooows down growth and it is just plain unnessacry

your mileage may vary. all i have to say about that is to be patient.

typically if everything is right you should harvest 4-7 days after pinning. but sometimes it takes longer. be patient

during the cold shock it's sealed up.. no chance for fridge contams to hurt the casing...
