Clarification on the no flaming rule
    #4840060 -

Any mod or admin can answer. Is the flaming rule in regards to just members or the human population as a whole?

If someone in PA&L calls Bush an ass or Saddam a piece of scum, is that flaming? Or like in the post about someones co-worker who is not a member here, who abuses peoples dogs and the members call that guy a dick. Is that still against forum rules?

I thought it was for members only and saw someone post that it was against the rules to flame non-members too.

Thanks for any clarification on this.

If it is for all people, not only is it lame, but it is not very well enforced.

Look, it is a WORD.

If you don't know what it means, look it up.

Most people, but not all, know the definition of "mushroom", should it be DEFINED in the cultivation forum rules?

Not all people know the definition of "ASSAULT"... "trolling" or "harassment"... etc...

Give me a break.

Flaming is against the rules in most, if not all Shroomery forums. If you don't know what it means, it is YOUR responsibility to find out,, BEFORE posting.

This one's not rocket science, jiggy.

there's been a recent rules rejig, so you should probably wait for an admin answer, but my 2c is that there is always an element of subjectivity and context in 'flaming', and sometimes the staff is a little on the conservative and strict side. but a lot depends on the forum, the poster's history, and the intent.

i call my buddies 'wanker' and 'dickhead' all the time, and vice-versa - it's just banter - but if i called a total stranger the same thing, i could expect a fat lip.

If it is for all people

So, I'm not allowed to call President Bush a drooling moron any more? Hmmm....

Republican Values:

1) You can't get married to your spouse who is the same sex as you.
2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child.
3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

I would say that's fine. Even if president Bush was a member I would still not ban anyone for calling him a drooling moron. There are exceptions to the rules

How could it possibly add any content to a real discussion to slam someone? Now stating an observation backed by facts is something else altogether.

Flaming: Bush is an asshole.

Observation: Bush is a liar because he said X on this date and non-X on this date.

I believe it is just among members. To go any further than that would be absurd.

How about only online members? More fun to smack someone when they are not around.

Well said! I will not give a blanket statement on flaming, as each forum is tailored to handle it differently. For example, PA&L and the S&P forums, which often harbor very heated discussion, will lay down a much stricter enforcement upon any flaming, whereas a forum such as The Psychedelic Experience, OTD, The Pub, and others may not be as strict in their enforcement since generally speaking, it will not cause as much of a disruption to flame an outside entity. Of course, any flames directed towards users of this message board are not appropriate and will lead to diciplinary action if found; OTD being the only exception.

but a lot depends on the forum, the poster's history, and the intent.

Determining intent is not a skill that any person, let alone a moderator, can deduct from a few words. However, if they can pass the Randi Challenge, then I will believe they have ESP and will respect their judgement.

Yeah, for the most part, the intent thing is a crock of shit.

Even when he/she has been dead wrong the last half-dozen times we should trust his/her judgement THIS TIME merely because they are in a position of some authority?
