I have a complaint about a Pub mod

I have some serious complaints about the Pub mod "Learyfan"

1. About a week ago I posted a picture of me touching poop in the Pub.



Learyfan saw this and immediately banned me from the Pub for 24 hours. He said that I had broken the rules of the Pub forum. Admittedly, I did break the rules of the Pub. His banning of me was justified. However, I think that he should have not brought the hammer down so hard. I think he should have given me a warning. I surmise that other Pub mods would have given a warning as opposed to immediately banning me.

2. I wrote Learyfan a PM in which I asked him to rescind my ban. He said that he would allow me back into the Pub at midnight (four hours after my ban). I was thinking, "Well...maybe he is a cool guy after all". I went into OTD and made a post about my ban. I jokingly talked about how groveling before Learyfan works wonders. Admittedly, I did include some of our PM correspondence in the post. I later learned that this is a Shroomery faux pas. I've been here for years and I was unaware of this Shroomery social rule.

Learyfan saw my OTD post and he immediately banned me again. Why was it so terrible to go talk about my ban in OTD? I don't see what the big deal was.

3. Yesterday I posted the following in a thread in the Pub:

I have fantasized about kidnapping Learyfan and forcing him to watch while I dump toxic waste into a pristine marine environment.

I was being completely facetious and sarcastic with this statement (and that should be obvious). Learyfan is well known as a "hippy", so I thought that my statement would be funny.

Some mod (I assume it was Learyfan) immediately banned me from the Shroomery for 24 hours and from the Pub "permanently". What the fuck?

I used to laugh at all of the OTD'ers whining about how Learyfan was an asshole hippy on a power trip. But, I now see that they had a point.

I think Learyfan is way too "ban happy". He seems incapable of giving warnings. He seems way more uptight than the other Pub mods (OneMoreRobot, Shroomism, etc...). He needs to lighten up. If he can't do that then I think the admins should remove him as a mod.


P.S. I am trying to get away from the Shroomery. This is my last post ever. I swear!

Yeah, he is by far the worst mod on the Shroomery.

Also, posting pm's was not against the rules until yesterday.

For every learyfan out there, there is a mod on the other end of the spectrum with the exact same attributes you all have spoken out against.

If this thread actually brings about any consequences upon Learyfan you will see many many more of these kinds of threads about other Mods.

certainly i've heard and seen complaints against learyfan before. however, i think for the most part, he is not out of line. he contributes a shit-ton to this site - perhaps a little talking to about using warnings/pms/editing posts instead of 24h bans might be in line, but i think he should remain a mod.

my personal opinion aside, the shroomery admins
protect their own and have rarely bowed to public
efforts such as this by users critical of a site
moderator or admin.

Congrats on the 5000 posts.

Now to the issue, you did break two rules, no posting scat in the Pub, no posting PMs.

The comment about kidnapping him, even jokingly is something we have for a while now been taking more seriously.

You have to understand threats of any kind, jokingly or not, is just not tolerated. We can't be assuming things since a person can jokingly say a veiled threat but have truth to it.

I know you didn't mean you'd really kidnap the guy, but thats cause I know your posts and I'm sure its just in jest.

However you just don't do that, and these are 3 specific rules you broke and you blame the mod for your punishments and not yourself?

Letting you back into the Pub is not a big problem as its your first offense I believe. BUT, Gdman or any other mod/admin would have banned you for posting scat in the Pub, and for posting a PM.

So to blame him for doing his job, silly.

The only grip you truly have is the kidnapping thing, I personally wouldnt be so harsh about that, but why even post that crap dude.

It's b/c it's not just Randall that is the issue. Learyfan does a consistently shitty job as a moderator of the Pub.

Also, since all threats (even jokes) are against the rules, you will now have some annoyed mods on your hands. It is the responsibility of the user to click the notify moderator button on all posts containing these threats.

i dont think calling someone's  problem stupid is a flame. much like how in the philosophy forum, you can call someones idea stupid without that being a flame. a flame is insulting a person, not their problems or ideas.

as i understand it.

anyways , my oppinion still stands. sounds to me like the guy is causing a big fuss about breaking the clearly stated rules of a forum and being banned for ONE DAY. that to me is pretty silly.

you broke the rules, you got a mild punishment, and then you cause a stink about it.
