Not really. We just stay on the lookout for an influx of complaints about a particular mod.

Ythan...

to say no to that question means that he does have lots of complaints. "are there not lots of complaints about MAIA?" had the not, not been there....then no would mean no....or maybe you are saying that yes he gets lots complaints.

if one were to recieve a multitude of complaints what action is taken?

I am saying that we have not received a lot of complaints about MAIA, sorry for any ambiguity.

Depending on the specific nature of the complaints, we may do anything from ignore them to permaban the mod in question. We trust everyone on our staff and any problems are dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

Speaking candidly, I have definitely received a lot of complaints about MAIA's recent actions relating to the S&P forum and split. But after reading heaps of threads, PM's, discussing the issues with both the complaining party and MAIA himself, and even actively lurking the S&P forum for a couple weeks, it is obvious to me that the brunt of these complaints have arisen simply because MAIA is in the position to implement and enforce policies that were and are being put into place under the direction of the staff and ultimately, the administrators. There were some complaints that were just downright bogus, like the 3 or 4 people who PM'd me bitchin' about how MAIA kept getting his posts into threads after they were locked and goin' off about how unfair and evil MAIA was for taking part in such a "dishonest" practice. Even after explaining that staff members can get posts into locked threads if they opened the 'reply' screen prior to the lock, I still saw users both in PM and in public forum trying to claim that both myself and MAIA were outright lying!

I'm not really meaning to get so jumpy about this, but MAIA was undoubtedly the most active moderator during the initial proposition and discussion of the S&P split, and as such it is no surprise that he was the one targeted with complaints during such a volatile time. There were indeed some instances that I felt MAIA could have handled better, and I did my best to discuss these with him at the time of their occurance so that we were both at the same understanding of how to handle certain matters. I have full faith that MAIA has this community's best interests in heart and is only trying to keep the peace for a portion of the membership that isn't as vocal as some of the rest. Sometimes the surrounding circumstances are to blame moreso than the moderator themself.

In short, I take complaints seriously and will always follow-up on the matters to determine whether or not any council/intervention or action is required. In most cases, even if there is no apparent public action, I will have PM'd the moderator involved to explain the nature of the complaint and provide suggestions as to how they might act in the future in efforts to avoid such dissent.

From what I have seen he handled himself admirably in a difficult, heated situation. He could have sat on the sidelines, but instead he cared.

No good deed goes unpunished it seems.

No matter what anyone says, he chose to enter the arena and take the heat. That takes guts and personally I give the man his props.

Maia's a good guy.

He could've handled the Swama better.

I don't think he should be de-modded, however I hope he has taken steps to keep himself from repeating past mistakes.

I have a legitimate (and fairly long) list of complaints, but I never sent it in to you geo, 'cause I know in his heart, Maia will try to do the right thing EVERY time, and he's a helluva mycologist.

Although, in the future, Maia would do himself a favor by being more open, honest and transparent, in his Moderation. Perhaps this will allow other Mods to back his actions up, without crossing, "The line".

As I'm sure Annom knows, and Shroomism is learning, transparency STOPS more drama than it causes... and admitting your mistakes, gives others room to help you out, forgive, and forget.

You can do yourself a favor a start answering my questions back then when you were a mod, which YOU NEVER DID. You seem to either have a bad memory or have hit the ignore user button on me.

This is directly from the mod forum, it 15 days old, NEVER got an answer or reply from you

My actions were scrutinized over and over and over again. I asked you, over and over and over again to prove your accusations, still you didn't.
I DID NOT BREAK ANY RULE, GUIDELINE OR WHATEVER. My mistake resides on the procedural actions, not breaking any rules.

Mistake n.1, ban should have been 24 hours not 12.
Mistake n.2, a PM was not sent to Swami.
Mistake n.3, the process should have been handled more quickly.

As for mistake n.1, "mea culpa", but again, it's not relevant to the outcome of the issue.

As for mistake n.2, notification service was not working correctly. Either way, this is also not relevant to the outcome of the issue.

As for mistake n.3, such a "touchy" issue was handled with extra precaution, be it by myself or the Administration.

I've posted all important info from the mod forum regarding this subject, yet you keep saying i should be more open, honest and transparent ?

I said it a dozen times, but i'll repeat it again for the sake of your rhetorical "open, honest, transparent" argument. Please provide factual information or STOP ACCUSING ME !

Swami follows protocol - gets banned.

MAIA fails to follow protocol - pats self on back.

Cervantes points out discrepancies - gets demodded.

Paradigm lodges complaints over actions - gets banned over nothing for pissing off the mods.

Funny how that 'works'...

English is my third language. Sorry if the way i make sentences angers you, but i usually try to be as direct as possible when explaining my ideas.

Anyway, i don't mind having lots of complaints, one person can make many. I would mind thought, having a lot of people complaining, if you know what i mean ... :smirk:

Where you see ultimatums, i see a reasonable request, one between many never answered. After all, aren't we trying to be more open, honest and transparent ?

There was a sabotage attempt to SM&P organized via PM between some members. I'm not accusing anyone in particular, but where's the openness, honesty and transparency in such attitude ?

I can't see where there is any honesty in your innuendo of making an unsubstantiated accusation in response to me. Sounds like yet another in a stream of personal attacks.

How this makes the Shroomery a better and friendlier place with representatives such as you fabricating more crap is beyond my ability to comprehend.

I use satire and irony to make a point and get banned. (Tactics that many laudable authors have used throughout history)

MAIA creates false rumor and slander to increase drama and that is acceptable.

You would do your self a favor by following Cervantes advice...but I'm not even sure you read i....or probably already forgot it.....Cervantes actually seemed to care...and you have to start accusing him of things just because you didn't like the advice he was giving?

I'll accepts all his critics when he justifies all the accusations he made, it's as simple as that, don't you think it's reasonable?
I've already pointed out the mistakes i made, i've answered all accusations towards myself with coherence and descriptive answers, what else can i do to be more open and transparent ?

People accuse me of things i haven't done, attitudes i've never taken, yet all i have to do is "take it and say thanks and keep my mouth shut" ? WTF ?

Cervantes position and arguments were heard BY THE WHOLE STAFF, yet he got NO support whatsoever, care to think about such fact for a while ?

Why should i take any advice from someone who's position is opposed to the staff ? Why should i take advice from someone that gave no justification for his accusations, keeps giving no justification for his accusations and keeps accusing me of not being open and transparent when he's not the one being open and transparent ?
