EDIT: Much better now

maybe you shouldn't look on it as a curse. i myself have a bond with quite a few people, but it is nothing deep, just drinking buddies etc.. which i see at the weekends.
where i live & who i grew up was pretty rough/tough as middle class society goes,i always considered myself to be different from my friends/associates in that while they most often than not were out being 'anti-social',and i was not with them,i was usually in reading stuff and watching documentaries..stuff like that.
do not mean to sound big headed but i went to a better school than the rest of my buddies but at that school i didn't quite fit in as most people went there to learn,i went to play soccer and smoke weed. )  anyway,i left that school after my exams and bar 1or2 people have no ties with anyone really from that time.
what i'm trying to say is i was kind of caught between being too smart for the streets & too streets for the school.  this has led me to feeling 'alienated' to a certain degree.
i understand a lot of what your saying completely, but honestly dude maybe it's the way it's meant to be..would be interesting to know more details, like do you work?  have a girlfriend/boyfriend?(sorry,i can't tell your sex at the mom.)
do you have friends you socialise with?
i know exactly what you mean about 'shell'..i have one for another reason, this makes it hard for me to show emotion towards girls/family which is pretty shit, but suppose i could change it if i really wanted.(as you could)

regarding getting rid of the feeling of alienation,i'd simply say 'drop the feeling'
your correct in saying now that you know the problem you can deal with it..also,maybe you have learned a lot about yourself from having such emotions,i know i have..and quite possibly you could use your experience to help you in the future.
i'm slowly getting there after a good few years of this feeling and having talked about it just now i already feel better..
anyway dude, hopefully you can make some sense of that and i gotta go before i completely run out of things to say..keep in contact man. ;o
peace.

IMO feelings of alienation and loneliness are rooted in self-doubt and a lack of self-love.

When we judge ourselves as less than others, or less than we "should" be, we become alienated from who we are.

Albert Ellis is the master of techniques for changing negative thought patterns & eliminating the "shoulds" which poison our emotional state.  Check your local library, or search online.  He was a prolific author, and I would recommend ANY of his books.

I think everyone feels the sameway at times, just alot of people handle it in different ways, some stop talking and others talk more, and still other people deal with it in different ways.
Its not an original feeling..
IT comes from caring too much what others think, to the point where you almost forget what you care about
It sounds like the shell you describe is shyness..I think everyone has had this/ still does. I read something intresting, like shyness is like a cage. When youre in a cage, it holds you back and annoys/frustrates/ makes you feel bad, especially when you realize its a self imposed cage.
I had a revalation one time..... it went liek this...
We as humans have amazing abilities, potential, and oppurtunity, we can make what we want of the world, we have the power, but WE MUST MASTER OUR WILLS or else forever be held back by ourselves(ego?). This is why i like tripping and find it helpful in my life. I realize the world is what I make of it, the trip lets me know what it is that I really want. Allows me to shift my morals, ethics, EFFORTS towards what i want. It allows my energy to be more focused on the efforts needed to complete (goals?)
But I dont really have goals. Maybe thats the problem, theyre just more of things i would like to accomplish.

Also check this out already, though im sure you have:

Youre a smart, kind person and have alot to offer the world, dont be held back!(selfadmittely easier said than done)

PEACE
