Sterilization - Perlite and Incubating Water

I've seen a lot of the incubator teks involving the fish tank heater mention that you should throw in some peroxide or bleach into the water. Would oxy clean do the trick, or what product is generally "peroxide" that I could find at walmart.

And...

Is it necessary to sterilize the perlite that you layer the bottom of your fruiting chamber with?

Oh, and how much can I expect 6 half pint pf cakes with z strain to yield total? I'm not casing as it's my first time.

For peroxide just go to walmart or any store even a dollar store and get hdyrogen peroxide. You can find it anywhere and it is cheap so just get that because it works the best and doesn't make things smell like bleach.

you don't really need to sterilize the perlite but you do need to rinse it. What I am going to do is rinse it then soak it in an h2o/h2o2 mixtuer just so it doesn't get nasty while it is in my FC.

I am on my first time also so I can't answer the last ? but good luck and I hope I helped.
