Pint jars ok? or definitely not?

I have everything I need except...1/2 pint jars...I couldn't find ANY in my area...but I didn't manage to find some cheap pint jars and bought 12 of them. Could I still make the right formula by possibly doubling everything? or is it too dangerous? I really want to have a successful yeild, but I'm limited to 1 pint jars right now. please to cinlude any success stories of pint jars or help. thanks!

oh yeah, I'm using the Hippie Tek, so I'll be leaving them in the jars basically forever...so I'm not concerned about complete colonization by any certain time(pins or no pins by completion). thanks!

I see what you're saying...I'm not too sure how I'm going to harvest lil' shrooms if the entire cake isn't colonized...I guess I'll just let them mature in the jar until I think it's a safe 'solid' cake. I know the first flush will be rough because it will be so tight, but once there's room in the jar, I should be alright. too dangerous as in-would I completely waste substrate and spores by inoculating a pint of substrate? I think that if I just double the amount I inoculate as well as the substrate, I should be alright, right?

PF Tek substrate. 1/4th cup BRF and 1/2 cup vermiculite. I haven't made it yet, because I'm not sure if just doubling it would work.

Pint jars are fine.....just do like you said and double everything..it takes longer to colonize though...also, put 1/8 cup dry verm in the jar first...this will help speed things up slightly...cya

BTW...you would be much better off using a rubbermaid container with perlite in the bottom instead of using hippie tek...good luck

how will the dry verm at the bottom help? That sound like a good idea, but I don't really understand. Thanks for the info though...I'm psyched to start! oh, and can you over-inoculate the substrate? because I think I'll make fewer jars, but put more spores in each since they'll take long and be larger anyway. =)

It will collect extra water that will move down the cake....too much water on the bottom of the cake will slow growth...the biggest things that slow growth are too much water and not enough air....You can't really over innoculate a jar(unless you squirt a whole syringe in one jar....1 cc per jar is plenty though...you really should try and stretch your syringes if you can....you dont want to have to keep buying syringes every time you want to do a batch of cakes...try using the last cc of your syringe using the honey tek....then you will have a syringe for another case of jars and so on! take care

I have tried 1/4 pint jars, half pint jars, and pint jars and find that my results off of pint jars are much better. I use the pf tek and just double the recipe and everything is golden. I don't really notice a large difference in colinisation time either. All I do is put the jars back in the box it came in, place it on a wire shelf and put a desk lamp right underneither the box. Creates perfect temp and I see about 100% colinization and no contamination in about 2 to 3 weeks max.
