Problems pinning PUERTO RICANS

Has anyone has problems pinning Puerto Rican's? My humidity is at 95, temp seems like mid 70s, and air exchange seems fine, however all the mycelium is doing is forming into balls (not pins). Whats going on here? I'm goin to cold shock one of the cakes tonight to see if that will help and then keep it in the light and see if I can get any invitro pins first. Suggestions?

i've heard several reports that this strain is very slow to pin, often taking 3 or more weeks after pinset initiated before finally fruiting.

I have heard this also, although i am using PR and they are doing fine, pinned they other day, maybe 3 days ago, innoculated on the 1st of nov. I think you just gotta be patient, this strain once pins has a huge number of pins, i can count about 30 on my cake now.. I think you just gotta be patient, I heard from eatyu he had to cold shock. Try it and see if it helps your strain, i guess it just matters where you got it from.

yep, same thing is happening to me with my cakes as we speak, i've got the balls, one cake had so many fluffy balls all over one side that I mistook it for being cobweb and tossed it..(oh well). cold shocking should help..
let me know what happens when you cold shock.... i'm afraid it may be a week or more before I start seeing pins.

As long as you can avoid overlay, you should be laughing - it took me 4weeks plus to finally get anything other than knots from these

I've grown P.R.'s from multispore innoculation and had no problem getting them to pin as long as I COLD SHOCKED. However, with me the problem lies in the actuall fruits. Some grew but with skinny stems and fucked up caps, they were potent though! Got few good sized fruits. That was from multispore on br and verm. Next I'm trying an isolate of the P.R. from a fruit on wheatstraw. And when I'm ready to pin you damn right I'ma cold shock and have pins in three days.

I had problems getting PR's on whole wheat and cased to pin. They just refused to pin.
The only way I got them to pin was to sprinkle activated charcoal over the overlay. Next day, there were lots of pins.

yeah Dimitri, it came from a sporeworks syringe, they're being grown out on cakes of dark rye and verm, they refuse to pin as well...now they're bluing and I can't figure out why, the knots that formed look like they're shribbling up as they blue....
should I cold shock or just leave them for a few days?

If they are turning blue and you haven't disturbed them, then they may be drying up and you don't have enough humidity. I would say to cold shock as soon as possible. Like I said, I had no problem getting a good pinset with cold shocking P.R.'s, just with the actuall pins.

Really? Maybe the key to pinning this type is too case with activated charcoal instead of the normal casings. I would say a bottom perlite layer, middle substrate layer of wheatstraw a couple inches, then a final 1/2inch activated charcoal casing layer.

my humidity is fine, lots of water on the sides...I just need to cold shock and then see what happens. the bluing has gone away, I guess maybe it was caused from moving my terrerium and the cakes hitting the sides of the lids they're resting on? either way they need to hurry up and pin, i'm getting pretty impaitent
