Wireless Modem?
    #4786638 -

Any one know anything about these? I borrowed my brothers Linksys Wireless-G it was marketed towards X-Box would it be only for gaming? I wouldnt think so but just wondering if anyone knows anything about this. It may be that no one has a wireless router arround me (im trying to get free internet here im broke as hell)

Yeah i figured so. Well he has a wireless router (which i didnt borrow) then the wireless reciever which i did borrow and took to my house. I plugged it in, in every socket i have and got no signal. I hooked it up to my computer and it detected the LAN connection but still no signal. My comp says that i was connected, says i was sending but not recieveing. I set it up to auto detect proxy still nothing and i just got the error page when trying to browse. I thought it MIGHT be my explorer so i tried to update w/ a road runner disk i have but i have XP HE so explorer was alredy updated. Odd thing is it was showing an IP adress in my network settings. Would have an IP adress even if i didnt have a connection? SO i released and tried to renew Failed: Could not renew IP address.

Yeah, I have the Wireless G

I had to set it up on my comp (with the CD that came with it) so it could know which network to seek. It's for my X-Box and PLaystation though, I'm not sure if it would work for your comp, especially without a CD.

Buy a little wireless reciever, they're reasonable cheap now anyway.

Yeah but im more than resonably broke. Ill ask my bro for the CD Like Hellas said tho its the same signal so it should work for both Besides im not useing a router myself just hoping someone arrounD me has one. Was the cd for the router or the reciever?

that's the router I have.
works just fine.

be sure to update your drivers for your nic & firmware for the router.
and be sure to open whatever ports you use (I recommend setting up a static IP): http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm

What do you need to know? It's a router, not a modem, right?

Just make sure to configure it right.
