Good wireless adapter/ modem for new PC?

So my new PC got here today and not surprisingly the WIFI is crap in my room. My laptop usually gets 2-3 bars but my PC has 1 :sad:

I don't even think I will be able to download firefox off windows explorer...

So what would be the simplest solution? Should I get a modem for my room or a wireless adapter to plug into my PC?

Or call comcast and see how much it would cost to add an Ethernet outlet to my room?

As of now I would have to run an ethernet cable through half of the house to get it to the modem in the living room...

What would you do? I live near a radioshack so I am considering seeing how much a wireless adapter would cost there.

Just get a wireless router or something you can put in your room. Im assuming you already have some kind of cable modem?

Yes I have a modem, it's just too far for me to run a cable too from my PC. Well I could do it but it would have to be a long ass cable and it would be in the way.

I ended up just getting a Linksys adapter from Fred Meyers as Radio Shack moved locations.

Was considering a router for the same price but the guys who worked their recommended an adapter if I couldn't just use a long cable.

Trying to set it up now, thankfully they have a 30 day refund period so if it doesn't work well I will have to buy something better online.

How are you using it? I was considering something like that to plug my PC right into, might have to try one out as it will probably beat an adapter.

Well the people at Freddies had no idea what they were talking about... :shakefist:

Just tried setting up the adapter and it says it needs to be next to a router :facepalm3:

I asked them if I should get a router or an adapter and they said adapter...

Looks like I am going back to the store.

Well I already have a modem it's just fairly far away and I can't move it any closer.

So I figured an adapter might strengthen my PC's signal. My laptop manages in the same area :shrug:

But the adapter wouldn't even connect to my internet even though is showed a better signal...  It kept saying it needs to be near a router though I think there was also some sort of error.

Walking to the store now to switch it out for a Linksys router which hopefully does the trick. If I have an extra cable I should be able to plug my PC into the router right?

Hopefully it works and I don't have to buy something online and wait...

I actually went for a slightly nicer one just in case the linksys range wasn't enough. Most of the reviews seemed good but I wanted to be safe.

They only had 3 routers, a simple linksys one and then the one I got for a bit more money and then some fancy one for like 200$ :lol:

I would buy a wifi extender. Its basically a relay station that relays your wifi signal farther than the router can. Or upgrade your wifi router to one of those expensive gaming types :shrug:

My router is upstairs, but i use a wifi extender for the main story in my house. Works great. Thanks Netgear :douchewink:

OP buy a good router. I'm currently running this one https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Nighthawk-Gigabit-Support-Compatible/dp/B00F0DD0I6 and I get all bars 50 yards away in a diff building when I'm working. Well worth the price.

you can get 100ft ethernet cord from home dept for like 25bucks
if you don't use it you can still get 50ft cord to reposition your router maybe closer

I have that router.  It kicks ass.  I never have a low signal, doesn't matter where I go in my house.

I've tried going to the corner of yard and to the end of my driveway which is probably about 30-40 yrds from the router and the signal stays 100%.

Bro use a ethernet connection if you do anything like gaming or streaming or anything.. it will always be faster/more stable.
I run a 50 ft cable from my router.. just all along the walls

If you insist on using WiFi then use a badass wardriving adapter like this - https://www.amazon.com/Alfa-AWUS036NH-802-11g-Wireless-Long-Range/dp/B003YIFHJY
I used one of these for stealing open wifi connections when I was into that stuff......they have a crazy range, you'll get 5 bars easy
