Help me buy a Wireless Modem/Router

I am not very good with computer specifications. I am currently using a Wireless G Cable Gateway from Linksys. I think I need to upgrade because I am told I am not making use of the bandwidth I am paying for.

Can you direct me to a good model or brand of modem/router?

What kind of specifications do I need to stream HD...that is about the extent of my computing?

Please help as you are able.
