help with a little router problem?
    #7491052 - 10/06/07 11:18 AM (16 years, 3 months ago)

i have DSL and a router. i have 2 computers, one with a static IP and one with a dynamic IP. i have my static IP computer (mine) hooked up through the router and i have internet access, and i have packets being sent and recieving.

however, the one with the dynamic IP isn't working. i haven't ever setup a router before. my whole life i've had dialup. so do any of you know what i'm talking about and can lend me a little hand here?

You're going to need to find out what kind of router it is and then find out how to access it's internal setup webpage.

wow its been a long time since i had to do that....i think i remember something about going to 192.168.1.1 to access the router's config screen....and then putting the isp provider info into the router, instead of the pc...then telling the router to allow 2 users..and then setting both computers to have a static ip, usually something like 192.168.100.1or2 and putting the router ip (192.168.1.1) for the dns gateway on both computers, and changing the DNS to the server ip's from the provider.....then i shut everything down, unplugged the router AND the modem...then turned everything back on...modem first, then router, then the pcs...good luck its a pain in the ass everytime i do it:tongue2:
