Tap water bad?? Advice Please!

About a month ago, I decided to attempt to grow some mushrooms. I got all my supplies and evrything. After some intense searching, I decided the best strain for me would be the Thia Koh Samui. I got my syringe from the lilshopofspores (great service btw).

I made 7 brf/verm jars, boiled them for about 90 min and let them cool. Innoculated 6 jars 7hrs later and waited. After about 4-5 days I saw some growth, but it was blue!? In EVERY single jar where I innoculated it was blue. Now its been about 8-9 days and the blue has grown and taken over about 60% of the jar. I dont think its a contam b/c I didn't innoculate one jar and it looks fine. No growth in it at all!! And all the Jars smell great. Seems odd to me that all 6 jars I innoculated had the EXACT same growth.

No disrepect to Lilshopofspores, but could the Syringe be contaminated, or is it that I used tap water?

I saved half of the syringe in case something like this happened and I'm gonna buy some distilled water and prepare 2 more jars.

Well, if the control jar didn?t show any contamination, the contaminants needed to enter the jars at the moment of inoculation. So either the air where you inoculated the jars beared a heavy contaminats load, the syringe needle was dirty on the outside or the syringe contents were bad.

I heated up the needle between each jar (red hot).
I read that some people wipe the needle w/ Iso. Alcohol (99%)
Is this a better method? Shouldn't the 1/2 inch layer of plain Verm protect me from Contams? And I innoculated them in the living room. Thought it was clean..perhaps not! I guess I'll use the "inside the oven innoculation" method.

No, heating is just fine.

I used straight tap water to fill my syringes once and all the jars got cob web mold. I used the same tap water to make new syringes, only this time I boiled it first, and no problems.

I did some searches in the Forum and seemed to have mix reviews on Tap water. I think I'll do the next 2 jars w/ Spring water and innoculate them in the oven. If my syringe is contaminated, do you think LSOS will help me?

Also, after innoculating, leave the tape on or off!? I currently have the Jars in my Terrium w/ a heating pad to keep the temp up around 80-85 degrees. Any suggestions to help colinization on this next batch?

people seem to have better luck with the tape off...



as for tap water, plenty of people use tap water without issue.
