Drying your harvest...

Ok... this could probably go in the mushroom cultivation forum, but I was wondering what methods work good besides dessicant containers? I'm getting kind of tired of having to regenerate my drierite after every harvest. Are there any unheated dehydraters that work good? Any advice, or recommendations would be appreciated : ) I'm willing to cough up cash for a dehydrator as long as its not too unbelievably expensive.

the problem with dessicant only drying is the large amount of water it has to absorb. I usually lay them out on dehydrator trays or on window screens and aim a fan at them for about 24 hours, then put them in the drying chamber. This greatly reduces the water the dessicant has to absorb.

I had thaught about trying something along those lines.... I was thinking about hanging them on some string or something kind of like how you dry peppers, heh.

My friend just lays them about for 2-3 days with a fan going in the same room, doesn't even have to be pointing at them and they always turn out cracker dry. humidity in the room is always between 35-50. works great less hassle, just a little more time.

i built a trapezoid like tube out of 4 pieces of cardboard and glued old computer fans to eaxh end and sealed the intake with MM filter disk on top of the bottom of the fan. i set the mushies on the disk and it shoots air thru there pretty well. the whole drying chamber is (taperes 3.125 inches at top (sizes of fans) and 5.25" bottom. ive only used it once but i let it go for 24 hours and the first batch were hardass bone dry. its awesome, hopefully i will have pics of all my setup and stuff soon in mushroom pix forum. but i would assume this is a decent setup, never any cleanup/maintinence and all i do is load it up and pluf in the TYCO battery charger DC converter that i wired to the fans. (12v .5A)
-------------------- Holy shit people; COMMON SENSE! we were all born with it where did it go? maybe theres a tek out there to explain how to use it! BUCKETS BRIGADE left hand man!!!
