Does fan drying work fine?

I need to dry my shrooms as soon as they start fruiting, but I'm not sure what method to chose. Does it work just as well to lay them out with a fan on them for a few days as it does to use the dessicant method? Does the fan drying method lose some of the potency or is it fine and safe?

Its fine, but it does lose some potency although its probably not a noticable amount. I use to use dessicant to dry all my buddies but I got tired of having to regenerate the dessicant in the stove after every harvest. From now on I'm going to let my buddies set out with a fan on them for about 24 hours then place them in a dessicant chamber, just to get rid of the majority of the moisture and let my dessicant last longer : )

with fan drying, would the room smell like the mushrooms? if so, how badly? I've got tons of bags of dessicant, the kind from shoe boxes, should I cut the bags open or just throw some bags in intact with the shrooms for drying?

no, thats the only way i use to dry mushrooms, i use my old fish bowl, its like cracked but oh well, i just put em in there and put the fun on the fish bowl and leave it for like a day.

my friends room smells very very mushroomy right about now cuz of the fan dring. i don't know what your talking about.

If you dry a big amount in a small room, and if you have a sensitive nose, then it will smell, sure.
