dried Ps.azurescens potency
    #2924284 - 07/24/04 08:28 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

I just fed my azure bed and by the amount of myc already there I should be having a helluva harvest this winter.Since I have only tried this fungi fresh I was curious if they have a substantial loss of potency or quality of the experience in drying?
Bed is a perllite base of 4cm built on an old wood pile of alder covered in pasteurized blend of phalaris grass(green chopped),spent pleurotus substrate, composted manure and a mix of hickory and alder chips.Aproximately 16L total volume first substrate.

Inoculated w/4L grain spawn and covered in fresh phalaris grass layer and composted straw in april.

Bed checked two days ago to reveal complete colonization by very rhizomorphic azure myc.Bed was fed 30L peroxidated hickory and alder (raw chips are hydrated with 3% H2O2 to crudely pasteurize)by hand mixing colonized wood with new wood. More chopped Phalaris was mixed in at this time also(the myc uses the straw like a super highway to spread rapidly).

Substrate was then covered in spent pluerotus substrate and leached potting mix.
This area was covered in a fresh cut phalaris layer and a layer of cardboard to retain moisture and the cardboard covered in another layer of fresh phalaris for shade

Regular waterings will insure the decomposition of the 4-6cm layer above the substrate and case the bed, especialy after the winter rains begin.

This is my first large bed,by my usual standards, of 9 M2 and it is aproaching 16M2 of mycelium surounding the first inoculation as the old alder is incorporated. My main site is aprox 12M2 and has begun to colonize in two days as the agressive azure myc marches through the fresh food supply.

This strain is so agressive I can dig up a chip Dip it in peroxide and drop into peroxidated alder chips and start new cultures w/o contamination probs.

Got 5 gooood meals from a half assed bed last yr and my cyans have all gone bye -bye but this agressive azure I believe will continue as long as I keep feeding it

Azures retain a good portion of their potency and for quite a while. I have friends who have tried dried specimens after 6-8 mo's of storage in a baggie without a noted loss of potency.

Call me dude!

I'm just wondering if you used phalaris grass (species..?) in an attempt to boost the mushrooms with some nice tryptamine building blocks, or was it just what you had available?
