vermiculite with colonization

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has noticed a difference with vermiculite and colonization times? The first bag I bought everything worked like a charm. The 2nd bag looked completely different (kind of like styrofoam packing) and felt like clay when it was wet, making colonization pert near impossible. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any similar to the first bag. I'm assuming it was from a different mine.
Any similar experiences? Any suggestions?

I get my verm from walmart. you can also find it in a garden store. I always use the same brand so i get the same results. verm is every where some times you just have to look hard.

my friend has used many different grades of verm. don't use dust or damn near close.

I will be looking for some better verm, and hopefully some better results.
What I particularly noticed about the batch from the clay verm was very skinny stems.
Anybody had good results with drilling a hole in the middle of the cake and pouring in water? Is it too late to make casings once you've yielded a very poor flush with cakes?

take a syringe and add a couple of cc of spring water. for casing take off all pins and case.
