Yeah that's what I was thinking was the problem. Adhesives. You couldn't even use hot glue. You could try and rig it w/ duct tape though. But if you wanted to get high tech and expensive you could use aluminum foil tape.
Or you could try a bunch of rope and huge nails.
I suggest the foil tape and then reinforce it with duct tape.

I did not think that adhesives would "eat" the styrofoam. I am sure that there is something out there that will work. I just read on a web site that the melting point of the styrofoam is 100 degrees C. Here is a web page that says some good things about the styrofoam.

Chemical Resistance
STYROFOAM brand insulation has no food value to attract or support plans or animal life. Exposure to direct sunlight for extended periods of time can result in ultraviolet degradation of the surface. Signs of UV degradation are a yellowing of the surface, followed by the formation of a thin layer of dust.
This dust can inhibit the bonding of mastic coatings and sealants, and it should be removed by thoroughly brushing before application of such materials. STYROFOAM brand insulation has excellent resistance to acids, bases, brines, and alcohol. It has poor resistance to hydrocarbons, olefins, napthas, ketones and vinyl esters.
Says right there that you can use sealents on this stuff.

Cool movie. I just stared at that thing for 15minutes. It is so neat how it goes from sheets to a man cutting it to a covered home that will be warm. No really cool pic.
How much does that shit (no pun intended) cost?
OoOOOOoooOO you ould have a super badass cool looking terrarium. Ok cover it with aluminum foil and secure it w/ aluminum tape. Blocking out the light and looking super cool. I doubt you would have troublt with light degradation inside though. Just out on the side of a house in sunny florida for a few weeks you might though.

I think that it was $12-$13 for a huge sheet bigger than a door.
Also, even if you had a problem with a sealent melting the foam you can use some duct tape to create a barrier, and then put the sealent on the duct tape.

Or better yet... aluminum tape.
That stuff is expensive but it's fun as hell to use, it works fucking awesome, and it looks cool as shit if you dont mess it up.

sorry the posts above by Tec-9 were actually me tom. This new board saves the last name that was logged in even after you restart the computer.
Aluminum foil tape is also excellent for bongs.
But how sturdy does that styrophome stuff look? I like to fight and throw heavy objects around my room. Will it hold up if a bowling ball or top of head crashes down on the roof of the terrarium? Man one time I piledrived this guy onto my tile floor. Ouch.
In other words is this type of styrophome slightly plyable or is it the icebox kind that shatters if you bend it?

Seems like it would be a bitch to clean styrofoam; getting dirt out of wrinkles and whatnot. Maybe a good idea for cakes instead of casing.

There are still lots of glues you can use with styrofaom, regular construction adhesive [liquid nails] works fine. It does melt the surface a bit, but not enough to be a big problem. Silicone works fine too, won't melt the foam and doesn't stink for days , but is a bit more money. They do sell special styrofoam adhesive at the home centers, comes in a caulk gun tube just like the liquid nails, etc, but it is quite expensive as you'd only need a tiny bit of the whole tube to make up even a large cooler, it's like $12 a tube.
My .02 cents, use silicone plus a bit of plain ole' duct tape to hole it together while the caulk sets up. Spring for the [double sided] aluminum faced stuff, it is much, much more durable and easier to keep clean as you can wipe it with various disinfectnats that would dissolve the plain styrofoam.

Ahhh. true.. disenfectants. Would alcohol dissolve it. The aluminum tape I'm talking of isn't double sided. Only one side is adhesive.

It said in the Chemical Resistance paragraph above that it has excellent resistance to acids, bases, brines, and alcohol. So it should not be a problem to disinfect. Also This styrofoam is different than regular styrofoam, it is a lot smoother, it is about 1-1.5 inches thick and seems to be stronger than the stuff the cheap coolers are made of. I don't think it will handel a piledriver tom, but will offer a little bit cushening.
