Re: Life Without "-ism"? [Re: Ravus]

But, isn't death just another way to stop thinking?

You answered all of your own questions when you said this;

Quote:
My personal beliefs are a mish-mosh of whatever produces positive results in my life. If ideas which appeal to me initially do not aid me in enjoying existence--TO DA CURB!

You can not be attached to a beleif and still stand up for ideals. If you ideal is joyful living and love contributes to that ideal then what do you have to be wronged for in standing up for love being something special to you?

Where would we be if people didn't stand up against slavery? Where would you and I be if women didn't stand up for their beleif that they have a right to vote and equal pay? Standing up for an ideal need not have a thing to do with being defencive or feeling you are on the attack or offended.

I think most of what people stand up for is really just related to fairness issues and equalising imbalances. I'm glad people do it.

Your standing up for love could just be that you think its unfair so many people are not experiencing it and think there is a gross imbalance in the world of the haves and have nots when it comes to knowing the joys of love.

Quote:
That'll stop all those pesky human thoughts from making you feel something real. After all, we should all be feeling happy and relaxed and God-like all the time, with evidence and logic doing nothing to help that come about.

Interesting. I think this is basically true, even if you were joking. I think it is possible to feel relaxed most all the time. No matter what is happening. Logic has only a part to play in the experience of life and it doesn't do anything for joy if you can't act on what is logical. Each person gets to test this out and see what is true here.

Quote:
I think a lot of people secretly look forward to death, but not because they truely believe in Heaven.

I agree. Release from the egoic stranglehold for the masses that cannot break free in life. (those living lives of quiet desperation)

"As soon as I loosened my hold on the belief that there was something uniquely correct about seeing Love as important, I was no longer defensive."

There is nothing wrong with my thinking there is something special about Love to me, the problem was my thinking others needed to agree with me. That, in my mind, is what's wrong with "-isms."

I have had incredible experiences with the power that I call Love, and still believe that others could benefit from having the same or similar experiences, but I do not NEED them to acknowledge the validity of my beliefs.

why is it necessary to smile through unanswered pain?

The smile is the eternal underneath the surface. When we focus on the material, we see unanswered pain, injustice, damage...but the eternal remains untouched and visible to those who will keep looking.

it makes sense for a happy person to state that the eternal is smiling. but doesn't the sad person state that the eternal is crying by a parallel process?

IOW it's the experience that defines the eternal, not the eternal the experience-

?

The eternal is smiling regardless of my emotional state.  IMO the eternal is composed of pure Love, without any of the fearful human baggage, and thus is unmoved by our attachments to positive/negative experiences.

Again, this is based on my experience with the eternal/divine through Tantric meditation.  Your results may vary.
