Do you like Ralphs EQs?

I started this hobby 8 months ago and I still don?t have anything to show for it. I?m still trying though. I have a few questions. I got my eq from Ralph a month ago. I inoculated 12 quart jars in total. 3 of them were filled with %4 malt solution. 9 of them were filled with %80 millet %20 earth worm castings. After one week I inoculated 36 more jars with the living malt solution. After three weeks the 9 quart jars and 36 quart jars are completely colonized with no contamination. None of the jars are tapered so I can?t dump out the solid chunk of mycelium. I can still shake them though. 1. The first 9 jars were started from spores. Must I case them separately. Should I remove the spawn from the jars to other containers? Can I case them without taking them out of the jars? 2. The second 36 jars were inoculated from living malt solution. Must I case them separately. Should I remove the spawn from the jars to other containers? Can I case them without taking them out of the jars? 3. Would it be better if I emptied the contents of each jar into its own form? 4. Is the liquid malt solution compatable? Do the 36 jars have the same type of mycelium growing in them or are they all different? Can I mix them together? 5. Just got a couple bales of straw. I sure would like to inoculate it with the 36 jars that were started from the liquid culture. Is 10-20 percent a good spawn to straw ratio? 6. I have six translucent Rubbermaid storage bins 7. What do you think? Please offer any teks you think would help me out. Thanx in advance, Potomac

if you got your spores from the FSR they are not strictly Ralph's spores - they are the FSR's

First off, I'm sorry to hear it has taken 8 monts and you haven't gotten any fruits yet. It sounds like yuou are pretty close now! I think you may have jumped right in instead of wetting your feet first(not that that is a bad thing!). 1. Dude would recommend casing separately. Mainly because each quart holds a nice amount of substrate for a single casing. yes remove them from their jars(this will give much more surface area and more fruits per flush). you can case them w/o taking them out of the jars ala Oss and Oeric, but I wouldn't recommend it. 2. same answers as 1 3. yes 4. unless you isolated a strain by using either agar or by cloning a fruit or mycelium, you have various strains in your 36 jars. You can mix them together, but IMO there will be competition among strains resulting in less than optimal fruiting. 5. Sounds like a good idea... Be sure to pasteurise the straw first. 10-20% sounds good to me, but dudeI doesn't have any experience spawning straw though. sounds good. stick with it and dont become frustrated if a catastrophe hits. many people who have been into this hobby for a long time havent tried the procedures you are doing, good luck.

Get two 1 pint jars with lid and ring. Cook some brown or white rice. Make it a little over done. Fill each jar 1/3 with cooked rice. Put the lid(inverted)and ring on somewhat loosely. Sterilize in a pressure cooker or autoclave. (1 hour at 15 lbs.) Let the jars cool to room temperature. Very carefully put some spores into the jars by lifting the lid slightly . After a few days you will have growth. Keep In a warm place(85 degrees) until all covered up. When all white (or close to it) expose the jars to light and give them some fresh air and drop the temperature to 75 degrees. Keep giving fresh air regularly and light as well. You will not fail. Peace.
