thin shrooms with small heads [pics...]

Dear All,
This is my first time growing shrooms, and they don't look right.
They look really thin, with small heads. For scale, the biggest shroom is about 1 inch.
They have been like this for about 1 week.
They are PR's with a whole wheat substrate. They are cased in a verm/peat moss mix with a touch of lime.
The temp is about 70C, and I fan about 2 times a day. The only light they get is when I fan them. I'm not sure on the humidity, but I have a wet paper towel on the bottom of the grow chamber which is always wet.
Any ideas?

try giving them more light, more air exchange, warmer temp. It may be because of your substrate, i've never used wheat.
If nothing else i'ld try to raise your humidity. a small layer of wet perlite on the bottom is all it takes.

Glad you got those pains to fruit - it took me a month... Mine were very skinny too, but this may be due to air exchange - those caps should develop larger as the veil breaks...all in all, you did very well for a first try...keep up that shit!@!

looks like penis envy
for one you need more humidity.. get rid of the paper towel deal, use perlite, or even better.. start misting with a spray bottle, inderectly. also, they need LIGHT, yes light wll help them grow UP. And raise that temperature a little or they will take a year to grow. about 79 is optimal.

i agree w/ everyone else :)
we usually use a perlite layer w/ 50%water and 50%peroxide... misting to keep the walls humid at all time :)
good luck and keep growing!!

yeah, id suggest organising a perlite sorta setup, or just cover that container with glad wrap and give it a good spraying - maybe its a little dry

As the others have said, I believe you should #1 give more air exchange, #2 raise the temp a few degrees, but i disagree with more humidity. Judging by the large number of pins formed your humidity may be too high! If you have any way to keep it at about 90% that is ideal at this point

its ok in my wookie friends opinion... he said you've got a nice pin set and that its normal to have lots of abhorts on the first flush. watch your temp and watch out not to moisten too much and you'll see what's a big flush in your 2nd... ;)

classic case of high CO2.
also if you have cased, you did it wrong, as I can see no evidence, which means you allowed overlay by not inducing pinning at the correct time.

thats a bit negative - all the PRs ive cultivated overlayed something chronic and few of the casings i deepscratched recovered to pin - they just kept overlaying until i left them to do this and then they pinned well...Its a good pin set, so at the end of the day there is nothing to complain about...
I dont see any fuzzy mycelia on those stalked or those rhizos on the side of the container so humidity looks low - although it must have been high to induce that pinning - although PRs tend to pin lots and abhort lots too...

I thought the PR's were a pain in the ass as well. They yielded ok... But they seemed to have a real problem with higher humidity levels.. Plus, on the first flush anyway, there was an abundance of small mushrooms. I would much rather grow a strain that will grow bigger mushrooms, even if they're fewer in number.. I'm not sure if I'm going to bother growing them again, unless I spawn them onto compost or something. So, I think the thin shrooms are characteristic of the strain, but they should make up for it in abundance. Good luck..

dear all,
thanks for your advice.
I have increased the air exchange from 2 to 3 per day. I can't do more, due to work commitments.
I have increased the humidity by daily misting the sides of the growth chamber.
I am giving them more light - about 30 minutes a day.
I have increased the temp from 70F to about 75F
The result: more pins! (although the original pins have grown slightly taller)
