Carbon Monoxide Poisoning?

Hey All,
How is it going? I have a question for any Shroomite out there who may know. I was recently at a gathering where I let my cousin use my home-made light bulb vaporizer. Long story short, he heated it up too much and inhaled a bunch of smoke, not vapor. As I understand this, he inhaled Carbon Monoxide.
Since that night he has been complaining of slightly hazy vision, slight, irregular headaches, and a general "foggy brain."
I have done some quick research on Google and I'm afraid he may have brain damage from inhaling a condensed dose of Carbon Monoxide. Do any of you have any experience with this type of thing or a light bulb vaporizer or just any advice? Appreciated. Thanks.

The book in which i first learned to construct this device advised against NEVER allowing smoke to develop in the bulb. I can remember exactly, but the book was some kind of cannabis grow bible and i think the author was greg green. His quote was, "If you want to stay healthy, do not inhale the smoke." or something to the same effect.
The symptoms have stayed with him for a few days since he used it. The high is way over. He also reports vision impairment.

smokers inhale carbon monoxide all the time.
Here's a simple chemical equation for you:
With lots of oxygen:
CH4 + 2O2 -> CO2 + 2H20
With little oxygen:
2 CH4 + 3 O2 -> 2 CO + 2 H2O
Explanation: Lean mixtures (lots of oxygen, little fuel) burn clean. Rich mixtures (lots of fuel, little oxygen) produce CO (carbon monoxide.)
Application: Your friend burned his marijuana in a small space, with potentially limited oxygen. CO seems a likely culprit.
edit: in the example, i used methane as a model fuel. This principle of oxygen availability works with any fuel, not just methane.

It should be no more unhealthy than inhaling regular weed smoke.

Did you wash out the whitish residue on the inside of the bulb before use? Did you make sure that the bulb was a burned out bulb?

I'm pretty sure lightbulbs have enough oxygen, or at least mine do. I just use a bare lightbulb and suck out the vapors/ smoke with a straw cut to about 1/4 of its regular length, and it seems enough oxygen gets in.
However, if you did cover it up with a plastic bottle cap and only had two holes, one with the straw in it, thereby letting in less oxygen, that could potentially theoretically be a possibly possible problem.

yeah. it was a pretty tiny bulb. it had the plastic bottle cap. and two straws, one for sucking, one for air intake. Damn. Hope he is ok, he is reporting vision problems, and slight difficulty concentrating. It's just so hard for me to believe that smoking bud and inhaling could cause permanent brain damage.

Well, I dunno about smoking through a home-made vaporiser, but there's the poop on CO2 vs. CO.
CO2, while it can be life threatening, can also be quickly cured with a good dose of oxygen and fresh air, as it bonds only temporarily with the Red Blood Cells.
CO, on the other hand is even more dangerous in that it bonds permanantly with the Red Blood Cells, rendering them inactive. A blood transfusion is often necessary to restore the patient to health....

But in the long run your liver would destroy these affected RBC's and then your body would generate new ones.
Did you smoke the pot too, laced???

Are you saying that he will Heal? Yeah, I smoked it, it was not laced. But I used the vaporizer right, the idea is that he inhaled too much carbon monoxide smoke.

Besides, what I am worried about is that it seems he may have suffered minor brain damage, but he reported no nausea, no vomiting, no unconsciousness. I wonder if Carbon monoxide can damage his brain, without him experiencing any of this?

Yes, the liver would dispose of the effected RBC's, and the marrow in your long bones (particularly the femurs) would regenerate more, BUT, your body needs a certain amount of unaltered RBC's to function, and these natural processes can't possibly replace them at the rate in which they were damaged. When so many are made useless that this is impossible, then organ damage and eventual shutting down of these organs will inevitably occur and, of course, death will follow...
Oh and I've not had the privilage of smoking laced weed, I'm happy to report...

Sorry if I sounded a bit pendantic there. I learned this from my step-dad at the dinner table a while back. Him being an MD, our dinner-table discussions were nothing short of interesting and unique....

No, it's very interesting, I'm just wondering, since he is not dead and has reported no symptoms other than slight vision impairment and "foggy brain" if this could be c0 poisoning. as i understand it, brain damage is the most severe (other than death) outcome of poisoning, but usually one experiences nausea or unconciousness before that happens...

But thats assuming you received a large enough dose to affect that many RBC's.
