Help, un-ID'd bluing Psilocybe sp. in Seattle.
    #458541 -

Hola,

Today while hunting for cyans I stumbled upon a cluster of mushrooms that I thought looked like psilocybes, but weren't cyans. I picked 2 larger specimens to bring home for ID. When I got home, bluing was noticable on the stems, gills and cap edges . They have white stems with a light annular zone dusted with purple spores (I'm taking spore prints tonight, just to be sure of the color, but I'm 99.9% sure they're purple), even cap margins and a slight umbo. The caps have dried out a bit (they've been printing a while) and are hygrophanous, fading to that same tan color as all the other psilocybes I've found so far. The ones I picked were pretty big, one of the caps is nearly 3.5 inches from one side to the other, stems about 3.5 inches long or so, maybe a little more. The cap color when fresh is a little bit lighter shade of brown than the cap color of fresh cyanescens. The caps were viscid. I checked for a separable gelatinous pellicle, but I couldn't see one, I often have the same problem with cyans though. They were growing in the same area I would expect cyans to grow (a well mulched area around some shrubs and trees). Sorry, I don't have any pics (no digital camera), but I thought maybe someone here might be able to help out by my description. So far, I'm leaning towards Psilocybe cyanofibrillosa, I'm sure that they're not cyanescens, baeos or stuntzii. I read on mjshroomers site that Ps. cyanofibrillosa is kind of rare, anyone else ever found them? Tomorrow I'm going to go pick the rest of them in the patch. I will be taking more prints after I pick them, any (experienced) cultivators interested in giving them a shot? Anyone have any ideas of other species that fit the description?

Good Hunting!!

DH

Do you have a scanner? If you do you should scan the shrooms in =)

Well, the caps I picked yesterday didn't drop many spores at all, maybe they were sitting around too long before I started printing them. The few spores that fell are a purplish-brown shade though. The stems blued like mad where I cut the caps off. I'll take some pics and pick the rest after class today.

Good Hunting!!

Big fucking dissapointment [Re: spores]
    #459499 -

FUCK.
You guys aren't going to believe this shit, I barely can myself. So I go back to the patch this afternoon with a cam to take some pics and they're gone! I look around the area, seeing if I can find any others. In a clump of grass a few feet from where they were growing yesterday I see all of the shrooms, picked and thrown on the ground gills up. Really pissed me off, now they probly wont drop spores worth a fuck since the gills have a bunch of water in them, I don't know how long ago they had been picked, but they were already bluing when I found them again. So I wasn't able to get any shots of them in habitat, which really blows. But I do have the shrooms, I took some pics of them and I'm going to try as hard as I can to get a decent print. I was pretty sure they were in a spot no one would find. Anyway, I'll finish up this roll of film and try to get it put on a CD next week so I can post some pics. I'm gonna have to start carrying a camera with me all the time, heh. The moral of the story is: DONT LEAVE SHROOMS BEHIND WHEN YOU FIND THEM. :)

Good Hunting!!

OK, I have 4 decent prints ready to go. Come on, I know someone wants to grow em out :) :). These things put cyans to shame in the bluing department (must be very high in psilocin), stems turned very dark blue where I cut the caps off, I might do a little bioassay tonight :).

Yeah dude, it was fucked up. I still know where the patch is though, maybe it'll put out another flush. I'll try to get the pics put on a CD next week. I still have 2 prints left for people to try out, Anno, BIO, anyone?

Wow dude!

Yes, very very similar to those, the stems were a bit thinner though. Have you ID'd those?

this is the 2nd year i've seen this sp. i'm not sure what they are. if they're cyanofibrillosa, they're huge. definitely not azurescens.
they vary a lot in appearance. the cap isn't always umbonate(may be strain specific) and they occasionally get a little wavy. the gills are consistantly deeper than P. cyanescens and the cap color is a little lighter too.
i'm thinking they're either new to the PNW or a new species all together.

Yeah, the ones I found were much larger than the cyans I've been finding. The first one I picked had a small umbo but the others didn't really. They just had hemispheric caps like the ones in your pic. The gills were also deeper than cyans. I think that's them. Too cool. Nice pic BTW :)

Those are interesting. I am not sure what they are besides Psilocybes. mikeofyle, If you are taking prints I'd like to trade for one. I can compare it to Dethhed's contribution and with luck cultivate it. I should be able to identify it at that point.

Well guys,

Looks like I fucked up most of the pics, heh. Only a couple are worth posting and they suck too :p. I was having problems with this camera. Anyway, here's my blurry pics.

Shows the hygrophanous fading

Same, but you can see the bluing where I cut the cap from the stem a little.

Theres a pic comparing one with a couple cyans. I fucked it up, I know :), but you can kinda see it.
