The only known Psilocybe you might find along a trail is P. mammillata in the state of florida, not coming from a cow/horse pie.
I haven't found any in south Florida.

I may be wrong but I don't think P. mammillata is active. You could also find P. coprophilia, but it is also inactive.

According to all literature on it, it is a bluing Psilocybe. No tests have been performed, so it is speculative.
Where did you here it wasn't ?

Bluing is due to the oxidation of indole based substances in the fungus. It dosen't mean it's active or even safe for that matter. The poisonous Eastwood Boletus blue upon exposure of its inner tissues, just like any psilocybian mushroom.

Psilocybe mammillata is active, to what degree is unknown and yet to be tested. There is strong debate whether or not my new species is something new or possibly Psilocybe mammillata(since it fits the description perfectly) Unfortuneately there are no pictures for comparison. Guzman should tells us for sure in the next year or so.
I know they are a rare find in florida, but I'd imagine them more abundant in the southern part of the state versus the northern part or Fla. It is said they favor tropical regions like Jamaica, Bolivia, Mexico, and also Florida, and you'd think they'd be found mostly in the southern part of the state closest to the equater. I dunno, I just wish someone would find the friggin thing so we could see a picture of this mystery mushroom. Trust me, I'v searched and a picture of this mushroom just doesn't publically exsist. If someone can find one of decent quality, I'd pay to see it LK,

Ive spent countless hours on many-dozen different trails looking for the mammi's, every month of the year, i even went to highlands hammock s.p. to walk all of their trails (Highlands hammock is where it was found in florida) -And they call it Highland county because i think that the elevation of the county is higher than the other surrounding counties.
I'm still looking though
