 Help with first try growing....no colinization

This is my first attempt at growing. It has been 10 days and I show no signs of any colinization. I followed the instructions off of the hawks eye web page to a tee. After boiling I let the jar cool and then used the syringe and injected the jars. Then I placed the jars back into the box they came in and put the box under my bed where it is dark and warm. The only sign of any growth is in the two middle jars there is bright orange stuff growing. Any help would be appreciated. Also, should I take the flaps off of the box? No oxygen????

I'm no expert, but I think your little jars might need a little indirect light to get them going.
P.S. any color besides white, toss it out. Contaim is no good!

Keep it dark and warm..Did you buy your syrunge or did you make it yourself?
If you did it you might have failed..The discolouring might be a sign of infection/contam...

no pressure cooker?
what TEK did you use?
orange != what you want..
it sounds like you did something wrong, and now you have contams.
don't worry much about O2 untill you get the first part right.

I just boiled the jars for an hour. The tek I used was the one off of the hawks eye webpage. I had the pan with just enough water to come up half way up the jar. I let the jars sit overnight. Is it possible they were too cold when I injected them???

the only way anyone here can really help you, is if you type up a detailed step by step of what you did. There are so many things that can go wrong... That is is hard to isolate one without proper info... GOod luck.

what ur substrate, cause i used brown rice for the second time and i lost 6 out of 8 jars, so im not doin this no more, im gonna get the shit from my 2 jars and get a pressure cooker and use bird seed, cause i got weilli, subbs, and gettin mexicana print, so i need a pressure cooker badly.

Ok, step by step..
1. wash 1/2 pint jars in hot water and bleach and rinse well.
2. in large bowl mix brown rice flour and vermiculite
3. put mixture in jars, wipe the rim and fill remaining 1/2 inch with vermiculite.
4. place jars in pot with boiling water and boil for 1 hour.
5. let jars cool and inject with syringe

There might have been some bleach residue left over that killed the spores. Moreover, how long has it been since you innoculated them? I've waited over 14days to see signs of growth (at 86degrees) and then they just kick in and kick ass.

Yea, thats my thought to... After I soak my jars in bleach
I boil them on the stove in clean water for an hour and THEN let them cool before adding substrate... Probably you just need to wait a bit, and make sure they aren't starting to take off as we speak!!! :)

I used to boil the jars for one hour when my mother gave MY pressure cooker to my grandmother. First time I did it, only one jar survived and the ohters got full of water(fortunetlly the one that survived gave me 3 trips till now..hehehe). Maybe some water got inside the jars. Did you make the substrate separately for each jar? I always do this. Good luck. And one other thing...I think FRESH prints/syringies are the best!! They colonize very very quickly!

Fresh spores are defently better. Mixing substrate in bulk amounts is never a problem. When your mixing up 12 jars it is a bitch to have to measure, mix, and load 12 times. I usually do 6 jars per mix. Remember that it is best to wet the vermiculite with water first and then coat it with the flour. I suggest you follow the PF Tek to the letter (cross every T and dot every I) except subsitute perlite for hand spraying and a drip shild is not necessary.
