What does mycellium grow or attach from??

Does the mycilleum grow off the rice? Or the vermiculite? When I powderised my rice there were a few larger pieces in my substrate.. They are starting to get fuzzy.. Is this mycilleum?

A little reading will go a long way towards answering all of your questions. See the link at the top of the page called "FAQ". Click that and read. In answer to your questions:

1) mycelium feeds (grows) off, and grows around, the rice
2) mycelium does not feed from, but will grow around, the vermiculite
3) probably
