There is absolutely no way that mycelium would start to grow without innoculation. Did you sterilize your jars? If not then there were already all kinds of molds that like the conditions you are giving them. If you have sterilized your jars, then there should be nothing in there.[This message has been edited by Vorpal (edited April 17, 2000).]

What the fuck is your substrate recipe? Also, if bacteria and other fungi can contaminate cakes, I don't see why Psilocybe(not that that's what you're growing) spores can't... I seem to remember Workman's pics of his P. species that got contaminated with cubensis spores, it was hilarious... Oleander------------------ I'm only two people away from having a menage a trois!

I used distilled water for the majority of my cakes, but then I ran out out and had to use tap water for the rest. I used this dirty substrate in about 4 whole jars and added some to some already filled jars.I didn't get my pressure cooker until 3 weeks later, and when I went to sterilize, I found that all the places where I used tap water were covered with thick mold. Don't kid yourself, it's not P. Cubensis. If it was, would't our jobs be so much easier? Just leave some jars out and wait for mushrooms. hehe. Start over, and Pressure cook/boil immediately after mixing the jars.

Sounds to me like you have cobweb mold.. I had it in some of my jars, and it does look very much like mycellenium. Can you see through it? And is it starting to look like webbing?
