I don't understand. Jars can't be filled and closed and sterilised and innoculated and... .inside a glove box so how do they make any difference?? what CAN you do in them other than innoculation. Is there anywhere I can read about glove boxes??

well, actually you probably could fill, close, sterilize, etc.. your jars in a glove box, there is no point however since you are going to sterilize it at a later point anyways. from what i understand the main problem with contams however IS at innoculation, that's why they are so good. however if you're doin pf tek then i don't see the need for 'em, 1/2" of vermiculite on the top does the trick. i think gloveboxes are used more with agar culture techniques, where trying to be neat and not coughing on shit just doesn't cut it.

I too made a glove box... it helps prevent germs from floating around and landing on the syringe.
In rooms that are dirty or have running central air, they are most useful.

They are really needed for G2G transfers. Which after seeing the results of my attempt, would reccommend G2G for everyone. Turned two quarts into 40 in 8 days. Peace,Love,Happiness and Harmony. Hippie Chick

glove boxes really aren't used for innoculating jars. that is the whole purpose of jars is to elimiate the need for a glove box. the maine pupose of a glove box is for doing things like G2Gs, printing, cloning, and agar work. but actually a "glove box isn't really needed, if you design your air flow to come from the top, just make it a flow hood and all is good. =) few bucks cheaper to.

if you do it quick enough, without much hesitation, you should be fine, unless you where doing it in a mildew infested basement or something.
