Mature spores?

When you take spore prints do you have to wait for the mushroom to start dropping it spores? What I mean is like if you took a print right after the veil broke can you take a spore print then? I have taken numerous spore prints and only a few have actually worked, just wondering if it is because the spores themselfs aren't matured yet.

Wait until it is actually dropping spores. You can tell by the deposit left on the veil remnants. Watch for the 'purple skirt'.

Just like Max says...but if you don't want unwanted spores dropped on your casing, you can also take a print when the cap begins to become translucent(spores will become obvious topside). It is very hard to time this right, depending on the strain...Your chances are 50/50.

Hey i think i have your same problem, i only took prints of the biggest (were closed caps) that i found they had opened when i got home so let them sporulate some tin foil, they didn't do shit, maybe it was cuz i didn't rinse my birdseed, who knows, who gives a shit, not me i just try again

When my caps break away from the veil there is already spores on them, like the purple skirt. I have Thai Ks growing, isn't it suppose to go flat when it is mature? Non of mine have gone flat before I toolk spore prints and when I did it still printed fine, it just doesn't grow. What I was asking is will it drop spores before they are mature? And so if they arent mature then they wont grow right? And thats the reason, I assume, that my jars show no growth.
