spores on a casing
    #1514935 - 05/02/03 03:22 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

AFOAF asked me to post this:

I have heard that when spores drop on a casing that no mushrooms will grow there. Does this mean that if they drop and you clean off the old casing layer and apply a new one that mushrooms will grow there, or does that not matter and mushrooms will just not grow on that section of mycelium period.

Casing material doesn't (shouldn't) contain nutrients.
That probably answers your question.

Mushrooms will grow where spores have been dropped IME.

You do not want spores to deposit on your casing.
It smothers the area....not good.

I have heard...that if you want spore prints...
Pick your first flush...before they deposit spores.
Use these for your consumption:)

The following flushes,use for printing.
Usually the subsiquint flushes are larger...

So...pick to eat first....print later:)

You should get 3-5 flushes if your casing doesnt get contaminated...or spores are not concentrated on it.
Keep your casing clean....dont let the spores fall all over it.
