100% Contaminent Free Cultivation
    #455333 - 11/11/01 07:39 PM (22 years, 11 months ago)

Either I'm one lucky sob or I'm going to unnessasary lengths to sterlize the cultivation procedure. I've been growing for over a year now and have NEVER experienced any contamination issues, invetro or post-birth. All I know is that Lysol is my friend, and this pressure cooker from the 50's takes 12 minutes to sterilize 6 jars. Never had a problem yet - after 120+ jars. Oh, and the last batch I used 4oz jelly jars to experiment with, used the inner resevoir tek, colonized in 11 days, 5 more days till first flush, 5 days on the dot for every concurrent flush (on the 4th already) gonna see how many I can push out of em. They're all sitting on damp verm with perlite humidificaiton. Any one else have success with 4oz jars?

Same here as far as contamination. Guess we're lucky. I PC everything for 45 min. at 10psi, use 1-pint jars, and do alot of the work in a glovebox I made. Time to try to case on my next run.

As a general rule, the smaller the jars the greater the success rate. One pint jars are more difficult than half pints and the little baby food jars are almost fool proof.
I hope you didn't jinx yourself by saying you haven't had any contams. Eventually EVERYBODY must get contams.

Ive done probably around 80 or some odd jars and have never seen a contam ever... not to mention I don't use lysol.. or a pressure cooker...

that's how i wes too, but then i started experimenting. If you stick to bought syringes and 1/2 pint jars, and don't completely half ass it, contaminants almost never happen

my first grow attempt i used 4 oz jelly jars because i couldn't find 8 oz and was anxious to get started. i didn't have nearly that success as far as colonization time goes. took mine about 3weeks. i have switched to 8 oz now beacuse its just more quantity of shrooms. but the 4 oz are great for making a spore print jar too!!

i had NO contam until i flipped the canning lid on my quart jars of millet....the contam was only on top. I think i will use a filter disc next time, because the increased air flow really speeded up colonization. I use a pressure cooker. I wear a dust mask and plastic gloves when innuculating and transfering the colonized millet.....
