Jars almost colonized, quick question
    #650081 - 05/28/02 05:57 PM (22 years, 6 months ago)

My friend has some jars which are almost completely colonized, and he is wondering if it's ok to birth them once there is no more visible substrate, only mycelium, or if he should wait a few days before birthing them. He would rather not wait, I think.

Also he has a couple jars whose colonization seems to have halted, or just slowed down a whole lot. This seems to be the result of poor substrate preparation, and he is wondering if in time they should eventually colonize completely? There is no visible contamination.

Many thanks in advance!

I'de wait a few days to ensure they are fully colonized. I dont think birthing them right off the bat is a good idea because some areas that you cannot see might not be as colonized as you would hople.

wait 4-5 days after 100% colonization to ensure the center of the cake has been penetrated with mycelium. for the jars that have stalled...in a clean environment, flip your jars over, upside down and give them a quick slam,, down on the table
