Urgent Pedro help required
    #4529607 -

I dug up my pedro because it didn't look so healthy to me. It has been raining a lot and the soil isn't that well drained. I also want to put it in a pot so I can always position it on good sunny places.
In what kind of soil should I plant this cactus? Can I just use earth from the garden and loosely mix it up with small stones etc?
Here is the dug up Pedro:

Can the roots survive out of earth for a while?

Preferably free-draining mineral soil, low on organic matter.
Although they can so relatively well on regular potting soil if you take some precautions.

The base of the cactus looks kinda dark to me. It may be rot, in which case you'll want to amputate the rotten part. Do check that out.

The base is dark because I planted it too deep. I'll keep an eye on it to see if it rots. I've just put it into normal earth now.
What is mineral soil? Sand?

Pedros can tolerate nearly unlimited rain if they are in 'sweet' soil. By sweet I mean basic, They like plenty of limestone, to buffer any acids and they love dolomite limestone because its limestone with magnesium and calcium and plenty of other minerals as well.

Buy some cactus soil and a cactus fertilizer.
