I read about some fat spiny desert frogs that live in arizona and new mexico.. and supposedly they have some gland in the back of their head that you can squeeze and it secretes dmt. And it says they only really come out after a rain.. I think that was it.

It is the Bufo alvarius. It is actually a mixture of DMT, 5-meo-DMT, and bufotenine.

All of my pics (except the first two, taken on the drive in) were taken within about 40 feet of our camp site.
It was in the Coconino National forest, on the Mogollon rim and part of Kehl Ridge about 14 miles in from highway 87 on Forest road 300 (aka Rim Road). It's a hell of a drive getting back in that far, but well worth it.
'Casil, next time we go, we should do Tunnel Hike (provided we have people to watch our stuff). It's a rail-road tunnel started in the 1800s that was eventually abandoned.

minutes after arriving at the campsite, nunciate spots this mini dinosaur. which is actually Phrynosoma Hernandesi or a greater short-horned lizard. she's so beautiful and calm. one of my favorite parts of the weekend.

the last view for countless carpenter ants.

i also found several babies.

best campsite i've ever been to. the views were amazing! you can see our campsite on the right.

sunrise view from camp.

while camping i let all the horned lizard babies go, but i did keep the one adult. during my teenage years i was quite the young herpetologist. though after i moved to arizona in 1998 i fell out of the hobby. but bringing this beautiful lizard home last weekend has really rejuvenated my interest. and while i knew all about horned lizards, i had in fact never seen a live one until the camping trip. they are amazing creatures, able to shoot blood from their eyes as a defense, and specializing in hunting ants. (i now keep big ass stinging ants as pets as well. for lizard food.) but yesterday the real magic happened... she gave birth!

she wasn't fat, she was pregnant!! 14 born, 7 making it through the first day. the 7 remaining ones are healthy, active, and eating. mom as well has a new found appetite... eating 50+ ants, 6 meal worms, and 4 crickets today alone! most horned lizards, and lizards in general, lay eggs. but this particular species holds the eggs inside until they hatch, giving birth to live young!! amazing!!

so is anyone else into reptiles/amphibians?

dude thats fucking awsome! you plan on just keeping them all? how long these things actually live for? we get those lizards running around our yard all the time....and one time as a little kid one of them actually shot blood at me while i was trying to catch it. though the ones around where i live must be a different species or what ever maybe even just a different sex, cuz they look nothing like that one. they look more like this....

though even this image isnt exactly it....if the lizard in that pic was a little more uniformly colored, and not so dark......kinda like a light tanish/white  color. heh, im stoned

i too like these lizards alot, congrats on yer new pet. somehow i am reminded of this thread http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...rue#Post1377613

are you sure she was pregnant before you caught her?

i hear they live for 13+ years easy. while we were camping i assumed it was a male because of the bulge at the base of the tail. once i got home, dankman and i did some research and identified the particular species. (there are close to 20 different species of horned lizard) but later that night, after more reading i found out that "he" was in fact a "she". and that this species gives birth from june-aug. suddenly this explains why i seen so many babies... and it was then that i really thought there was a good chance that my fat-ass lizard might be pregnant.

i'm going to keep the babies at least until they are old and strong enough to travel. then perhaps giving/trading some to other horned lizard enthusiasts. i've already found a good horned lizard message board. i'd certainly consider giving one to anyone here that is willing to educate themselves and care for it properly. (which includes feeding it specific species of ants, 40% of it's diet at least.)
