why do you need a 24 hr soak for grain??

is it just to make sure all the endo spors germinate so they can be killed off during PC'ing or is it so they absorb as much moisture as they can hold.. or both.. was just wondering.

and you can mix verm in with your grain cant you, so itll suck up any extra water that is left from inoculating?? just wondering cuz last couple batches ive done there has been excess water on the bottom.. not much like a little puddle, didnt even cove the whole bottom of the jars. one batch rotted i think becuse of this..
